Took me a while to decide to take the plunge from my beloved 17" Dell CRT, Which through the 3 years, besides its huge rear-end never warranted a reason to be replaced. But me being a gadget freak and my friends wondering why I still used a CRT decided now is the time.
I again before buying anything researched thoroughly on the internet to be sure I'm spending my money wisely and compared to my friends had the best TFT available within a reasonable price bracket. TFT's have come along way since I last remembered and are competing with CRTs with performance and cost.
I first found the ViewSonic vx924 (not the vx922 which this model is) and was blown away when I saw it in the show room, looked a remarkable product of great quality and performance, even the guy at the showroom said he owned this model and its never let him down. The only major difference I could find with the Vx924 is 3-4ms (each site changes there mind), which the vx922 is 2ms and considerably newer.
Researching Online, looking at many sites like my good old favourite Toms Hardware, this was very highly recommended behind another ViewSonic monitor which I could no longer find on sale. After reading countless reviews, I put my money where my mouth is and bought the monitor from Novatech which is local to me and cost me around £285 no p+p needed.
So far after having this product for 3 weeks It has been a great purchase, with the games I have tested such as Half Life 2, Age Of Empires 3, Doom 3, Unreal Tournament, Final Fantasy XI It has performed just as good as a standard CRT. I have the resolution set to the maximum 1280x1024 via the DVI input which also includes VGA and the cables to connect to you computer and my desktop is very bright(which I turned down) and very sharp.
The colours are excellent and very vibrant, also text and other fonts are very smooth, my monitor was also completely dead pixel free which was a great relief. The stand is very strong with good grip and the monitor itself feels fantatsic and off a very high quality, the settings are incredibly easy to use and installing the monitor was very easy, it also come with a installation CD.
I also tested movies via DVD playback and .avi files which all seemed to work fine; I also have a TV-card connected to my computer which I use to connect my satellite television and games consoles too. Which I noticed when I watched the football through my monitor displayed a great image.
Overall I am very pleased that I finally bought the monitor, only problem now is I'm overwhelmed with the free desk space I now have and what to do with it.
