Advantages Advantages Record your favourite films and shows, pause and rewind TV, wish list of future films/shows

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expense and annoyance of installation, takes a while to load up

Okay, well that's a lie and I wouldn't recommend that, but TiVo is great entertainment! About 6 months ago we decided to have Virgin Media’s Tivo box installed. My parents have had Sky Plus for years and I’ve always liked the idea of being able to record and pause television shows, but with our basic Virgin box we had none of these features. Virgin offered us a deal of £49.99 for installation of the new box (normally £99.99 including activation) and £3 a month for the service. I wasn’t particularly happy about paying extra for my partner convinced me that it would save us money in the long ... more

Advantages Advantages Recording of three programmes, easy to use interface, now completely affordable.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only available to Virgin Media cable customers, poor physical design, no reminder function yet.

The TiVo brand, launched in 1999, is massive in North America's competitive DVR (Digital Video Recorder, also known as PVR - Personal Video Recorder) market, but is by far the number one choice for consumers in the States. So it was only logical that TiVo try to extend their brand into other markets, and at the turn of the millennium, TiVo signed an exclusive agreement with BSkyB (Sky, to you and I) to change the way people watched TV in the UK. But, instead of changing our lives, TiVo failed to make a significant impact, subsequently being dropped by BSkyB two years later. Reasons vary ... more

Who Provides It? The TiVo box is made by the company TiVo and provided by the company Virgin Media as an upgrade to their V+ Box. TiVo has been around for ages but their partnership with Virgin Media to provide their services to Virgin Media customers is a fairly new one. Price and Availability The TiVo box is available to Virgin Media customers whether they are new ones or existing ones. The Virgin Media website is currently offering free installation to new customers but without this offer installation normally costs £40. The 500GB box costs £49.95 and the 1TB box costs £99.95. With both ... more

It has now been 5 months since we moved to our new home and it was almost a pre-requisite that TiVo would be one of the first improvements that we wanted (or should I say my wife wanted) and had been thought about many times over the year since Virgin first introduced their new black box particularly as several family members already had it and we had seen it in operation at their homes. We ummed and arhed for months on whether to get TiVo because we received several letters from Virgin offering us a 6 month special deal with half price box, but the normal rental price was always higher than ... more

We have used Virgin Media for our TV, broadband and telephone access for a couple of years now. About a year ago, we changed from a standard Virgin Media box to a TiVo one. We have a premium package (no sports channels or my boyfriend would never get up from the couch!) and a 500GB box. This means that we've countless channels and loads of space to record our favourite ones. Our box was installed quickly and with no mess or fuss, and the engineer put little blue plastic bags over his feet so that our carpet wouldn't get dirty! He installed a new cable that's barely noticeable and set our phone ... more
