Virgin Megastore (Shop)

In the early seventies I used to buy Sounds and New Musical Express to find out the gen on my favourite bands of the time which included Hawkwind and German rock bands such as Amon Duul II, Faust, Neu, Can and Kraftwerk as well as other left field conglomerations such as Gong and the like. Around the same time a certain Mr Richard Branson was selling records , reputedly from the boot of his mini. A triumph in the retail industry this store is effectively managed and knows just how to supply its customers with affordable records and other assorted merchandise. As a teenager I can not sing the praises of Virgin Records enough, yes it is certainly possible to find CDs at much cheaper prices in smaller and more independent records, this is a dictum which is certainly hard to challenge, however these independent stores do not often have what you are looking for, as opposed to Virgin who will simply search their extensive and expanding database in order to find and obtain the album or single ... more

Like HMV, there isn't essentially anything wrong with Virgin. I enjoy going there, wandering round and browsing what they have on offer. All the Virgin stores I have been in to date have been very spacious and clean, and it is very relaxing to simply dander around at your leisure. All the stores I have been in have a "futurist" look to them, with metal fittings and panels all over the place, and huge plate glass windows at the front of the store. A large retail chain store for music and video. Also selling computer and console games, they stock a large variety to suit all tastes. Owned by the entrepreneur Richard Branson, this chain of popular store is popping up in many large towns and cities. As a consumer that very rarely ventures into Plymouth city centre, today I did the impossible, I not only went to town, I took my toddler with me. Imagine the sight, a frazzled mum with an irate 2year old escaping from the buggy in the middle of the downstairs of a store that has a broken lift. There are a lot of things that can be said about a store that sells items 'above' the recommended retail price. Many of them being unsuitable for young ears and would probably warrant a washing my mouth out with copious amounts of soap; but for the purposes of this review I shall try to keep things both clean and objective. -Shop- The first thing I noticed as I entered the store is that it is quite dark and most of its theme is based on black fixtures and fittings.
