Advantages Excellent service
Disadvantages Bit pricey
A large retail chain store for music and video. Also selling computer and console games, they stock a large variety to suit all tastes.
Owned by the entrepreneur Richard Branson, this chain of popular store is popping up in many large towns and cities.
Imagine the sight, a frazzled mum with an irate 2year old escaping from the buggy in the middle of the downstairs of a store that has a broken lift.
Huffing and puffing I headed for the stairs, which, by now looked like Everest, when a smart young chap appeared with a huge smile and a friendly approach.
He not only asked if I was okay and did I need anything in specific, he explained that the kids have been getting into the customer lift and forcing the doors open between floors which is why the lift was not working. The engineers would be there shortly to repair the damage.
I got myself a great deal there. Two quality DVD’s for £25, I bought Stuart Little and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Even after I had changed my mind, and bought Pokemon the Movie in place of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the staff were still friendly and co-operative and could not do enough to help.
On the down side I thought that some of the other titles were a little on the pricey side, but the selection was truly huge, and by far the most comprehensive that I have seen in Plymouth city centre (I spent 3 hours traipsing around everyone of them). It is very easy to get lost in this store though, as this is a big shop with listening facilities in most areas, demo games consoles and try before you buy phones.
The layout is signposted and all areas are relatively easy to find.
Most of their bargain deals seem to be near to the checkouts, or well displayed in the aisles.
I liked the fact that everything is categorised alphabetically making my life a lot easier.
When I had finished my purchase, the young man that I had spoken to downstairs asked if I was okay and did I find what I was looking for. He then asked if I would like to use the lift again to go to the exit. After trotting back down the stairs to bring the lift back up, he appeared and directed us into the lift and downstairs.
As someone who had spent the previous 3 hours battling with the crowds, it was refreshing to be treated with some amount of dignity and caring.
In humble appreciation.
Very highly recommended.

I agree with Phil, a bit overpriced for the likes of most cds, although they do occasionally have the odd good deal on. I normally just go there (Plymouth) to play on the computer games. Great way to waste half an hour if you're stuck for something to do. Great op!! Ben :)

Perhaps you should look at online shopping - it's normally the cheapest way to get DVDs and such. I recommend www.streetsonline.co.uk
