Recently I’ve been on a desperate search for a new foundation after my old one ran out (some rubbishy Revlon one that clogged my pores something rotten). In my search I pondered upon YSL’s Teint Singulier (liquid foundation that turns to matte powder upon application) and BeneFit’s PlaySticks (solid stick foundation) but couldn’t quite make my mind up which one I preferred. After talking with my sister she told me that she used Virgin Vie’s One Step Face Base and got it out of her make up bag for me to try. One application and I was convinced…..so now allow me to convince you….
ONE STEP FACE BASE
Virgin Vie’s One Step Face Base is just that – one sweep of this and you’re done – fully made up and ready to go! Basically it is foundation and powder all rolled into one handy little container.
Much like the entire Virgin Vie range the packaging is stylish yet simplistic. It is a navy blue matte plastic dome, about the size of your palm. It has a small section in the centre of the lid with an inset ‘V’ logo in silver. It is not something you will be ashamed of owning as it can hold its own in my make up bag packed full of plush brand names.
Flick the little catch and the hinged container opens to reveal a large powdery circle of colour and a decent sized mirror built into the lid. The powder has a raised ‘V’ logo in it which inevitably disappears after the first few applications (it seems such a shame to ruin it!)
Lift the lid as high as it will go and you will see the powdered layer lifting up. If you flick this layer up it reveals another layer right in the base of the container which houses the applicator sponge. Personally I think this is a great addition; I don’t know whether it is because it looks tidier or because it seems a bit classier but I just love it. It also means that the sponge is not in constant contact with the powder, which is an added bonus because it is not wearing it down any more than is absolutely necessary.
Although I describe this as powder it is not like a pressed powder as you might imagine it to be. It is extremely fine in texture - somewhere between moist and powdery on the sponge.
APPLICATION
Really couldn’t be simpler:
1. Apply moisturiser and allow 5-10 minutes to fully soak in. 2. Smooth the sponge over the powder and apply to your face.
Make sure you apply from the middle of your face to the edges and blend, blend, blend! This is the most important bit to get smooth even coverage (with all foundations not just this). Pay particular attention to the hair line and jaw line – even if the foundation is a very close match to your skin, you need to make sure it looks natural and never noticeable.
For mid-day touch ups or to de-shine your face just pat a small amount on the surface of your face and this should suffice.
APPEARANCE
Totally natural. I like my eye and lip make up to be unique and slightly edgy, but when it comes to foundation I think natural looking perfectly flawless matte skin beats heavily made up skin every time. One Step Face Base provides exactly that: a matte effect perfectly even skin tone which doesn’t ‘look’ like anything, it just makes you appear like you have completely clear skin. The light-diffusing Mica contained within it gives you a healthy, yet subtle glow.
When I asked my boyfriend what it looked like when I first applied it he said, “I can’t see anything, it just looks like you have good skin” so obviously I had achieved the desired effect!
Another great thing about this product is that due to it not being a liquid, you can use exactly the right amount. It is never over-applied because you use it to build up tiny layers. You can either use a very thin layer just to correct any uneven skin colour, or build up to a slightly thicker layer to cover darker blemishes or imperfections.
‘FEEL’
Unlike other foundations I could not actually *feel* this there once I had applied it. It did not feel heavy or caked on, and it wouldn’t rub off on clothes I had put on and taken off, which is a huge bonus for me. My skin feels like it can still breathe when I am wearing this and it feels soft to the touch.
Sometimes if I am having a bit of a bad skin day I build this up a little thicker to cover everything, and even then I am not conscious of it on my skin.
STAYING POWER?
I couldn’t ask for more. If I apply this at around 9 or 10 in the morning my face will look flawless up until the time I remove it in the evening. Despite its impressive staying power it does not cling to your face for dear life when you wish to remove it. Normal cleanser and cotton wool will suffice.
I never re-apply make up during the day (apart from lip gloss!) but if you did wish to, this container is the perfect size to carry in your bag without fear of liquid leakages or messy powder spillages.
SKIN CARE BENEFITS
One Step Face Base contains Liquorice Extract which Virgin Vie claim will soothe your skin. I have no reason to disbelieve this, as I have found that rather than clogging my pores, it has maintained my skin’s condition, and *possibly* improved it slightly. It has certainly had no detrimental effect on my skin, which I think is most important otherwise you could find yourself stuck in the vicious circle of wearing foundation to cover spots that were caused by foundation, which in turn will give you worse spots…..and so on and so forth.
FOR WHICH SKIN TYPES?
All. My sister has a tendency towards dry skin and I have a tendency towards combination/oily T-Zone and we have both found it equally suitable for our skin. I also have a very slight tendency towards sensitive skin, and this has not affected this at all, so perhaps it would be suited to sensitive types as well.
COLOURS
I have beige/honey coloured skin and I own the Soft Beige shade of this. It is an absolute perfect match for my skin. My sister has the Ivory and it suits her skin perfectly – so I think Virgin Vie have designed their colours very well and I would imagine there would be something to suit most people.
These are the colours offered (which can be viewed at www.virgincosmetics.com)
They cost £13.50 full price in Virgin Vie stores but I managed to bag myself a BRAND NEW one for £7.50 including postage on eBay. Granted they might not have your colour but it’s worth a look before paying full price. I was fully prepared to buy this at full price and still would in the future if I had to; I am really that impressed.
VERDICT
This base gives me the kind of coverage I want – sheer, but enough to cover my slight uneven skin tone and give the illusion of perfect skin. I would probably not recommend this to those of you who like total thick coverage. You could achieve it but I think the container would run out fairly quickly and you might run the risk of looking over-powdered or caked as it is not really designed for heavy coverage.
I would highly recommend it to those with a tendency towards combination skin, because I have found that it keeps my shiny forehead under control and never makes any skin problems worse. It would also be great for those with a hectic lifestyle who can’t spend time on foundation AND powder as it literally only takes about 30 seconds for me to apply this.
I know I’ve found MY foundation: Flawless matte perfection. I do not expect to be changing any time soon.
...me! So out comes the Virgin Vie One Step Face Base which I replenished in January as my old one had run out after two years of winter month usage!

This is currently £14 for a 12g compact but the beauty of it is that once you have the compact and the base runs out you can buy a refill for £11, which is what I have just done.

...natural looking finish, then The Virgin Vie One Step Face Base is a must. Combining a foundation and powder together into the one compact pressed powder makes application simple, quick and very easy. I'm not really a great make-up lover but let's face it there are just some days when you really can't leave the house without it and, if like me, you don't always have very much time to apply make-up then you might find the Virgin Vie One Step Face Base ... ...Virgin Vie One Step Face Base comes as a compact power. Packaged in a very stylish, shiny, deep blue transparent compact with the trademark "V" just visible through the slightly domed lid of the compact. The compact is easily opened by pressing and releasing a small catch on the front. The inside of the lid is a mirror, a must for those little touch-ups when out and about. The pressed powder again has the trademark "V" embossed into it, giving it ...

Advantages: Long lasting professional look make-up Disadvantages: Sponges get mucky quickly
...I bought this from Virgin Vie for £14.25. It comes in a lovely blue compact with a mirror and sponge! Fits great in your handbag.
It comes in several shades;
Alabaster
Ivory
Soft Beige
Honey
Caramel
Sable
The only thing I would say is that it doesn't come in any colours for dark skin. Which is a shame as it is a great foundation base!
The refil base comes in all the above colours and costs £11.25.
The refil slots right in and is ready to ... ...the rest).
If not Virgin Vie sell make-up sponges for £3.25.
This foundation will siut any type of skin. I have very dry skin and usually find most foundations, even liquid ones show up my dry skin even more! Not this one though!
Value for money: Great (considering it has the same effects as a liquid + powder + consealer combined, saving you money).
Texture: Lovely and light, not heavy or stodgy.
Fragrance: A slight sweet scent.
Lasting: Good, ...

Virgin Vie Cosmetics has become a huge name in the cosmetic world. Another company that Richard Branson has produced and a very successful business venture from a man!
I attended my first Virgin Vie party about 3 years ago, with the warning that I would love the products! I have also been to a Virgin Vie shop which I found to be my second heaven……
Like most women, I try various options when it comes to make-up – and as a result I have a make-up ... ...made my first order of Virgin Vie products I decided to give the One Step Face Base a try - a combined powder and foundation all in one.
As I said, I had used many similar products in the past but never found a foundation that was right shade for my skin tone and also one that didn’t dry my skin out after a time.
I chose the shade recommended to me (Ivory) by the party consultant and trusted her judgement. When my order arrived it was like Christmas ...

...just before Christmas was the Virgin Vie Party phenomenon. When I received my invitation I was a little apprehensive as I had been told that the products were very expensive. Against my better judgement I arrived at the party armed with a bottle of wine ........and my cheque book.

There were 6 shades available, alabaster, ivory, soft beige, honey, caramel, and sable. I opted for soft beige as I thought that it would provide the most natural effect. I wrote out a cheque for £13.50 and was told by the lovely virgin vie lady that it would arrive within a week.
True to her word the party hostess delivered my one step face base within a week as promised. ...

Advantages: Simple and cheaper than its designer counter parts but still attractively packaged. Disadvantages: none
VirginVieOneStepFaceBase has changed the way I apply foundation.
I used to get out my concealer and blot it on my blemishes then get out my liquid foundation and apply that over it, then get out my powder but now...in one quick step its all done! No need for concealer or powder! What more can you ask for!
At the bargain price of £12.50 it is much cheaper than most onestep foundations and you can buy refills at a cost of £9.50 which is a real bonus. It comes in five shades of alabaster, ivory, honey, caramel and sable
VirginVie is changing the way we look at cosmetics in that its nicely packaged, mid priced and doesn't come with any of the stigma attached like Avon...its mail order but we are proud to own it!

Advantages: Great for mattifying oily skin Disadvantages: None
I first stumbled across the VirginVieOneStepFaceBase back in August 2004. Prior to that I was a Max Factor fan.
A bit about the product:- It is available in six shades, which blend very well with your natural skin tone. It is available in a compact, complete with mirror and application sponge which was £13.50 the last time I bought one. When you have finished the product you can buy a refill, at around £11, which you just slot into the compact (OK, it's not actually that easy, firstly to have to use a knife to remove the old pan, and then you can slot the new one in!). Both products are available at VirginVie class parties, or in VirginVie stores around the country.
If you have ever had the problem with normal / combination, uneven skin tone, or even, having to do makeup in a hurry, then this is the foundation for you ...

I know there isn't much to write about foundation but i had to tell all you ladies how great VirginViesonestepfacebase foundation is. It is a little pricey but is worth the money especialy if you want great looking make-up.
It comes in 6 great shades Alabaster, ivory, soft beige, honey, caramel and sable.I chose honey but obviously you would pick the shade that goes with your skin.
The price of this product is 13.00 but is really worth it. It comes with a sponge and a box with a mirror so you can put it on anywhere.
I wouldn't go out without it on. It is also suitable for all skin types.
I would also recomend the high shine lip gloss and the triple-action aftersun. ...
