Yet another love child of the bearded one this website is very much what you would expect. It debunks all the wine snobbery and gives fun, accessible, descriptions of the wines.

I always go straight to the MIIXED CASES section as I'm pretty clueless. There are 3 sections.

Ok, I admit it I like odd glass or two but is buying a whole case of wine excessive? The first time I did it I felt really decadent but now I find that I get really good value for money. Im not very good at choosing wines off the supermarket shelf - I am often disappointed - so now I leave it the experts.

Each selection can be bought as white only, reds only or mixed.
Alternatively you can go into BROWSE.
Unusually the wines are not listed by country or grape variety but into 'tastes' eg, Full and Fruity reds, Clean and Crisp whites, Rioja style. This seems odd but does make perfect sense to a pleb like me. Once you make a selection you get a list which you can select by price band to narrow it down bit. The descriptions are a real strength of this web site as they are meaningful and so easy to understand. If you are still confused they will select a case for you based on the types of wine you put in your favourites. You list your taste peferences and they will list recommendations for you.
ORDERING I actually ordered over the phone and spoke to a real person who showed genuine enthusiasm for the wine and made several recommendations within my price range. I ordered a case at £70 with delivery at £5.99. Prices start at around £49.99 a case plus delivery - so £4.58 a bottle.
DELIVERY The website states that they try to deliver in 2 working days and guarentee 7. My wine took 4 working days. When I ordered I was asked if there was a safe place to leave it if I was out, I said by the back door. Although I was in to accept delivery I noticed that this information had been passed onto the driver on the delivery note. The wine was well packaged in a cheerful bright red Virgin box.

Araldica d'Aria Pinot Grigio 2005 Summer in a bottle! If you like your wine dry you will love the crispness of this - very clean on the palette. Don't it waste by drinking it with food - if you insist, something very light like fish.
Road to Robe Shiraz 01/02 I'm not a big Aussie wine fan but this is light on the oak . More fruity than spicy. I really did love this one. Great with a barbie or a Sunday roast.
Monos Locos Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 Really moorish which could be a problem at 13.5% so best to share it around. This is a pretty heavy red wine, full of fruit, have this at lunch time and you will probably be asleep by mid afternoon.I noticed that this is a bronze medal winner and it certainly tastes a cut above - far too good for the likes of me. Sip it slowly!
Le Chalutier Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2005 This is a young wine but designed to be drunk that way. French but made to taste like a NewZealand wine. Fresh, green flavours. Nectar.
I have only had one bottle of wine from Virgin that I didn't like. I told them that I don't like Aussie Chardonnay and they put one in the case. When I mentioned it the cost was refunded from my next case. This is a standard guarentee. There doesn't have to be anything wrong with the wine. If you didn't like it they will refund your money.
If you love a glass of wine but are not a wine buff I would recommend Virgin Wines. You may be able to buy cheaper stuff in Tescos, but not that much cheaper, and this has been uniformly good value for money.
Advantages: Great value boutique wines Disadvantages: The on-line wine auctions are addictive!
I have been buying from Virgin Wines for about three years and I have been consistently impressed with the quality and value for money of their wines. They have got a very good range of wines from all around the world, which vary in price from as little as £4 right up to £85 for a bottle of Dom Perignon 2000. I belong to their Wine Bank, which is effectively a loyalty programme. You pay £20 each month into the Wine Bank and every three months Virgin ... ...parties and summer BBQ's.
Virgin Wines also have an Auction area on their website where you can pick up a real steal. Last year I purchased a dozen bottles of Leasingham Bin 56 Cabernet Malbec with a retail price of £120 for just £56. In addition, they have seasonal sales and last January I picked up a mixed case of Chilean Red Wine, which I selected myself, for about half price. As with most wine clubs, Virgin Wines offer a full money back guarantee ...

Advantages: Easy to use, excellent service, sometimes surprising Disadvantages: Addictive, not good for your liver
I joined Virgin Wine as they offer a £20 voucher for the first order. As there is no commitment to order more than one case I figured it could not hurt to try it. The first case we bought was very good. The cases vary in price and we choose one at about £50. After than we would choose our own wines to build a case every so often and started rating the wines on the virgin website. The idea is you can keep tasting notes and your opinions on each wine; ... ...to buy it again. Virgin noticed this and refunded the money for the wine without being asked. Amazing.
Our budget has gone down now so I can not afford the cases on a regular basis, but I do keep an eye on the auctions and have purchased a case of wine for £30. At the moment we pay no more that £4 a bottle and the wines have been really good for that money. The cases are often different and we have had some £10 bottles of wines in the avg price ...

Quick review of Virgin Wines
Was very impressed with the wine and the delivery, UNITL things started to go wrong. After receiving a seconf case of wine in a twop week period, I informed them of their mistake. However I was told that £90 had came out of my account ten days prior and that it would not be refunded until at least 5 days after they had received back the wine, that they sent me by mistake! With customer service like this no wonder Riochard Branson is so rich! Avoid at all costs ...

I, like many people, never used to like red wine. I found it too dry and it gave me terrible hangovers the following day. However, I like a drink and when I read in a paper that a glass of red wine a day is good for you (ok - any excuse!) I decided to start trying a few.
The Bottle
It was the label on the bottle that appealed to me and made me want to try it. It's a very simple design in red and gold and states the name (Blossom Hill - obviously) and the country of origin (California USA). It was the fact that it says "soft and fruity" that made me think that maybe this one wouldn't taste like vinegar. On the back of the bottle is another label telling you a little about the taste of the wine and reassuring you off the quality of the grapes.
The Colour and Smell
The wine is a gorgeous, dark red colour which looks like ...

Advantages: Fruity flavour, woody elements, Reasonably priced Disadvantages: Not the best Chardonnay but what do you expect at this price
Several weeks ago I was going through a few opinions on both Dooyoo and Ciao on White Wines. I came across one on both sites about Blossom Hill Chardonnay and although the particular reviewer was a little critical of the wine, it seemed to fit my liking pretty well. (BB hope you're reading)
I regularly place a mixed case order (12 bottles) with VirginWines primarily because they offer you the utmost choice and cover over a thousand different brands and types of wines. Their prices are also excellent aswell as delivery. So in my last order I included a bottle of this, alongwith my usual selection of wines.
Now lets get back to the wine in question. Blossom Hill Chardonnay is a Californian wine and one the reasons why I decided to try this one out was because of my past favourable experiences with another Californian wine by Paul ...

The Beaujolais nouveau, is the lightest of the wines from this region, and is the easiest for the red winevirgin to enjoy. It has been called a white wine, that happens to be red, and this is quite apt. Even for the more experienced, it offers something with its fresness unequalled by any other red.
All that needs to be said now, is for you guys to make me a promise. Try this before you write-off red wine. I can promise you that it will not be a waste of time, and that if you open your mind and your heart to it, you may well be surprised. Feel free to leave comment if you find this helpful, and also I would be genuinely interested to see if you took my advice, and tried a bottle. And if so, was i right or wrong?
Recommended, to even the red winevirgin!!! G
