Virtua Tennis 2, probably the best Tennis game around, features 16 players - 8 men and 8 women, playing top class tennis around the world.
It may not have the best graphics but they are more than acceptable for a tennis game. The characters are very close to the real-life players, with realistic movements.
The controls are very easy, X will simply hit the ball, O to make a drop shot, and Square to do a lob. Nothing too complicated, though you will need a couple of matches to really understand how the game plays. Matches are very easy, normally you play just 2 games, wich is a bit short compared to real-life matches where you play 3 to 5 sets. Yes, the game is easy, but when you play a final, or a high level match in the World Tour, it’s just frustrating how the other player makes you look ridiculous. He will catch every shot, and he will always hit the ball with incredibly ease, while you won’t be able to catch a ball.
There are three game modes. Exhibiton, wich consists in playing a normal match with the player of your choice. Tournament, where you can choose if you want to play Singles or Doubles, you’ll have to try and win all 5 stages of single matches, or 3 stages of double matches. Finally, World Tour consists in creating a player and enter competitions around the world trying to make it to the top 10, while you play mini games that will increase your stats. There is also a shop, where you can buy shirts, tennis rackets and similar stuff with your money earned from the competitions you won.
The mini games are incredibly fun, there are lots of them and each will increase a specific skill. Pin Crasher is some kind of bowling, only that you’ll have to crush the pins with a tennis ball. Danger Flags consist in collecting flags around the tennis court while avoiding red balls that will make you start from scratch.
Virtua Tennis 2 is a very addictive game that will entertain you for hours. The World Tour will take about 300 hours of your time, just to reach the Number 1 place. It probably is the best tennis game around, and it’s worth your money, especially if you have a multitap and 3 mates.

Graphics:
Good graphics, perhaps a bit dated, but excellent animations and physics. Great facial animations, showing anger and happiness.

Sound:
Background music is a bit dull, just the tipical arcade music. Sound effects during matches are great though, with players shouting when hitting the ball and the spectators Oh-ing and Ah-ing when you make a great play.

Gameplay:
Very easy to play, though you’ll need a bit of practice to master the game. Hundreds of hours of entertaining tennis will make sure that you didn’t waste your money. Especially when playing with your mates.

I used to enjoy these but seem to have lost interest in most game playing these days. Must be a sign of middle age!
