...and being produced by Sega, Virtua Tennis 3 was always going to sell well and get crave reviews, but has the game itself evolved enough to stay up there with the overhaul of new games already destined for the PS3? Plainly the answer lies whether or not you are a tennis fan or not as we shall see below.
Its predecessors before it, Virtua Tennis 2 (PS2) and Virtua Tennis World Tour (PSP) have always been considered as dominating the 'tennis market' ... ...in the majority of areas, Virtua Tennis 3 lives up to that hype. Highly detailed face mapping has been used to ensure the up-most reality of the players themselves. Face lines and muscle outlines give players realistic features such as cheek bones and simple animation such as blinking really amplifies the illusion. Graphics themselves are quite grainy which actually works well meaning that skin reflection is of highest detail and the lighting itself ...

Advantages: Amazing graphics, pretty good fun!! Disadvantages: Gets much harder later on in the World Tour Mode, and where is the online mode?!
...my PS3, and I saw Virtua Tennis in action on a demo DVD, and I was astounded. This looked exactly like the real thing. I do like a bit of tennis, (I watch Wimbledon every year, usually until the British players go out, which unfortunately is fairly early on in the tournament every year), so I decided I would add to my Playstation 3 game collection with Virtua Tennis 3!
Gameplay
The gameplay on VT3 is very solid. And until Pro Evolution Soccer comes ... ...it, that's how you play Virtua Tennis 3! Easy eh? And if you're feeling particularly brave or are in the need for a laugh with your mates, you can try playing the six-axis control. Meaning you run around by tilting the controller, and then playing shots by jerking the controller in the correct direction and the correct movement. It is quite hard, but when there is a group of you doing it, it really is hilarious!!
Graphics
Sega really have used ...

Advantages: Amazing graphics, brilliantly simple gameplay, incredibly realistic physics Disadvantages: Can become tedious, no online mode.
This would not normally have been my first choice for a game for my new PS3, but given the scarceness of PS3 games out there, I plumped for one of the few sporting titles. I love sports games solely because of the absence of linearity - you can play it over and over and never complete it, which, assuming the gameplay is enjoyable, is a good thing. I do tend to find tennis games a tad dull after a while, especially in one player mode. No matter how ... ...after a time. However, I had faith in next-gen technology, plonked down my £40 and gave it a go. Of course, the first thing you will notice is the quality of the in game graphics. The players look real (Martina Hingis especially so - rawr), the clothes on the players flap around like clothes, rather than appearing as though they are painted on, and the skidmarks and ballmarks (stop sniggering) left on the court are realtime. But let's step back a ...

Advantages: Graphics, rane of difficulty settings, enjoyment Disadvantages: no online mode small arcade features bring it down
Virtua Tennis has always been an arcade style game instead of being realistic. Virtua Tennis 3 although contains great lifelike graphics is stil unfortunately cursed by the cheesy arcade factors such as the classic small explosion when the racket and ball collide and the line of yellow mist which follows the ball giving it a tail like structure. These features in the game (I believe) bring a tacky and childish part the the otherwise great game. Some ... ...is completly realsitic and although Virtua tennis has toned down the arcade like idea these tiny modifications bring you out of the illusion that this game is real life and you are infact watching a game of tennis being played at Wimbledon.
Apart from the arcade defects the graphics are infact pretty amazing. This game, like a few others in the ps3 catalogue, is capable of 1080p resoulution therefore giving you the complete True HD experience of ...

Advantages: fluid gameplay, nice graphics Disadvantages: no online mode, world tour dull after while
Virtua Tennis 3 is the latest of a long list of tennis games realised on various games consoles and it is a good game. The playstation 3 version which I own is very similar to the previous release on the playstation 2. A few more players from both the men's and women's tours have been added, the graphics enhanced such as court wear and tear and the world tour mode has seen some minor changes. Apart from these suttle changes its basically the same ... ...best tennis game available to buy. The following male players are on the game:
