Vitacat Pouches

Since the credit crunch hit, we like most people have been trying to find ways to save here and there.

Our first priority was the weekly shopping bill which , without going into too much detail was a considerable amount considering there is just the two of us plus the cat!

It was while scrutinising the weekly shopping bill that we realised that our beloved cat gets the best of everything. We were swapping branded names for the stores own etc, but the kitty kept eating like a princess!

We used to buy whiskas pouches and to be honest they are excellent quality, the cat loved them and all was well. The only problem being we needed to find cheaper alternatives.

At first we tried Tiger, Asda's own brand of cat food. This was a no go right from the start. She wouldn't touch it, simply sniffed at it meowed and walked off in a huff - charming!! We tried to persevere with this brand but after a couple of days, I got worried, because the cat wasn't eating it, full stop and I didn't want her to starve! So back to the whiskas and hey what a surprise her appetite returned.

We left it for a week or so and then tried to ween her off the whiskas again. This time we tried with another brand (felix) and once again she wouldn't touch it.

This went on for quite a while, but determine to bring our living costs down (and the cats!) we kept on looking for a cheaper alterantive that she would like. Eventually whilst doing a quick shop in Aldi we came across Vitacat pouches.

I for one didn't hold out much hope. But at £2.19 for 12 pouches it was worth a try.

Well... the packaging is not dis-similar to the whiskas pouches and the contents didn't look unlike what you would find in a whiskas pouch (although doesn't come out of the packet with quiet as much ease). The only noticable thing is the meat pieces are more square and don't look quite as chunky (although they contain the same amount of food per pack as a whiskas pouch).

And yes I am pleased to report the culinary expert (ie the cat) loved them and we have never looked back since, plus we are saving a few pennies too, which is a big plus.

Where to Buy

Vitacat is available from your local Aldi store

The Cost

£2.19 for a box of 12 pouches.

Our cat loves the Jelly selection which contains:

3 Duck & Liver
3 Chicken
3 Turkey
3 Tuna

There are other alternative ie the fish selection and they also do a gravy option if your cat doesn't like jelly.

Opinion

Certainly a cheaper alternative to Whiskas (the similar variety 'market produce' whiskas pack costs £3.48) and out cats loves them and believe me she is a fussy eater and I never thought we would be able to get her off her favourite Whiskas.

At £2.19 it certainly worth trying your cat with them.
