In a display case by the till counter we saw a Vivitar 200 - Digital Video Recorder and Digital Still Camera. The price tag was set at £99.99, our ultimate limit. Neither of us noticed a slip of paper which had fallen over to the front of the device.

We asked the assistant to have a look at the camera, only to find that the slip of paper actually stated that the camera had been reduced to £49.99, bargain!
We did ask about the specifications ... ...technical so just smiled and nodded. A mistake?.... perhaps!
The camera is silver and sized to fit into a top shirt pocket. Quite handy. The 1.5TFT LCD display flips up and twists when in use. On first examination, the camera seemed easy enough to operate., with only seven buttons on the whole camera, one being the power button. We looked at each other, how difficult could it be?
I have recently married and we had a very extensive wedding list. Very luckily we did really well and received 99% of the gifts. One thing we did realise we did not have was a camera. So we hit the high street to find something to fit our budget, bearing in mind we were skint after the wedding. Mmm, as you can imagine, we were struggling to rustle up £100 between us.
We stumbled across Woolworths in our local town after a a disappointing day of drooling over cameras far too expensive for us. It was our last resort and, to be honest, I was holding out much hope. How wrong could I have been!?!

We did ask about the specifications of the camera but neither me or Si are very technical so just smiled and nodded. A mistake?.... perhaps!

On first examination, the camera seemed easy enough to operate., with only seven buttons on the whole camera, one being the power button. We looked at each other, how difficult could it be?
Needless to say we bought the camera, excited at the prospect of finally having a camera, nevermind a video camcorder.
We got home, now realising we needed a memory card if we wanted to save anything we took. Never mind. We just took to experimentation until we got a SP card.
Okay, so we turned on the camera, using the power button at the top of the camera. Easy enough!..Instantly we could see on the screen, whoo whoo! I posed as Si pressed the button with a picture of a camera on it. A camera film winding noise gives the appropriate sound effect as a picture is taken. Yeah, this is a doddle.
Next we tried the video camcorder function. The next button down on the control strip is a toggle button with up and down responses. Press the button in firmly to activate the camcorder function. On screen there is an option of press again to pause or press camera button to stop. Easy peasey!
So far so good. The next button on the strip is the mode button. This brings up a sound recorder function. To record, pause and stop it is the same buttons as for the camcorder. If you press the mode button again you can select the mode you wish to view, either Image/Movie, MP3 or Voice Recorder. This just lets you view or listen to what you have created. Again nothing too hard.
Next, we moved to the buttons under the screen, three little buttons. The central button brings up your options relating to which mode you are in. Recording options; Image size - 4M, 3M, 2M, 1/2M. Press the toggle button to set your choice-Image Quality - Super fine, fine or Normal, Video Size - L ( 640 x 480) or M (320 x 240), Video Quality - Ultra fine, Super fine, fine or normal, Exposure - -1.8ev - +1.8EV (Whatever!?!) White balance - Auto, Daylight, Shade, Fluro, Lamp, ISO - Auto, 100, 200, 400.
The next option screen is recording set-up options. You can set your power off time, it is set at three minutes but can be changed to up to 30 minutes or turned off completely. There is a set to default button if you fiddle with too many settings and don't know what you have done. Very handy if you like to fiddle like me! You can set the date format eg/ m/d/y, y/m/d etc, change the date and set the date to show on videos and photos. You can also set the language to 9 different ones. The light frequency can be set to 50 Hz or 60 Hz.
When in the camera stills mode you can protect, delete, copy to card quite easily. You can also set up a slide show. The set-up options are very similar to those for the camcorder, but with the option to add sound effects.
The flash function can be used but if it is not needed the camera seems to know. Very clever. So you don't have to worry about it really.
Timers can be set when taking photos to either 3 seconds or 10 seconds too which are great when you want to be in a picture! The toggle button is used for zooming in and out with a great amount of ease.
To play mp3 files again use the same buttons when in mp3 mode to play, repeat and delete files. Again seems too easy.
On full batteries you can probably get about an hours filming and uncountable images. To be honest its always taken enough for us on a particular trip so Im not sure the full capacity. We have a 512 mb SD card so guess it is a fair few, and there is a 16mb internal memory. To make it easier when out and about, we tended to take a spare set of rechargeable batteries just so we could be sure. Rechargeable batteries also last a lot longer. It only requires 2 AA to power, and you do get supplied with them when you purchase the camera.
To sync with your PC the systems requirements are Windows 98SE/ME/XP and you get a disc included for the Photosuite and Photovista to view, edit and print photos.
The camera comes complete with a case, a USB cable to contact to your PC and also a cable to connect to your television . This is great fun. I cant wait till Christmas, so we can set it up to record Zach opening his presents and have it recording on the tele. It will be great!
I have attached a couple of photos to show you what we have taken with this camera. I would recommend this camera for ease of use and value for money! A great snap!
Advantages: small and light to carry around Disadvantages: memory card built in and batteries used quickly
...one.
I spotted the Vivitar DVR 200 on an internet shopping channel and when the price dropped to £69 I decided to treat him and so far I haven't lived to regret it.
It's silver in colour, with an on screen LCD display, built-in 64MB memory, 2.5 x digital zoom, MPEG 4 video compression, 2 mega pixel and is able to record 17 minutes of video. To use with a PC it requires 800 Mhz Pentium III pc, 128 MB RAM, Windows ME/2000/XP and windows media player ... ...It came with carry case, usb lead, cd for PC and leads for TV playback. It requires 2 x AA batteries (not included) which if not a good brand don't last 5 minutes and good brand doesn't last much longer!!
I have to admit that the picture quality is excellent though and the video camera comes in handy for short school performances - you don't have to stand at the back because it's small enough to use in your chair!!
I would think that there probably ...

Advantages: Light, easy to use, compact, great start out camera, well priced Disadvantages: Quality when connected to the TV.
I brought this camera at short notice to take on an exotic holiday with me as I wanted to be able to video and take photographs on holiday without looking like a typical tourist. This little camera allowed me to do this as when you are videoing its so small that its not seen as much as a normal camcorder. I choose this model as I did not have much money to spend and at £89.00 it was a great choice. I also upgraded the memory card so that we could ... ...The camera it self is light weight and compact with the screen folding in when you are not using it. You can also spin the screen round so that you can film or take photos of yourself. The on and off button is easy to use, as is the picture button and filming button. Its easy to pan in and out both on photos and filming. There is an easy to use menu bottom and once you get used to where to go for each thing then its simple to use. You can protect ...

Advantages: Lightwieght and practical Disadvantages: Batteries dont last very long, so use rechargable ones
My wife purchased one of this neat little camcorders for my birthday for around £100 - £120 including a memory upgrade. It is simplicity itself to use the quality is superb for a 2Meg device. The software which comes bundled with it enables a beginner to make quite good and impressive videos., with a host of special effects normally found on higher priced devicesI would advise purchasing rechargable batteries since the only drawback I have found ...

Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: Battery power runs out fast
I revieved this camera as a gift from my gran.
It was easy to learn work and the instuctions was excellent.
The instructions told you everything you needed to know and was easy to understand.
I find this camera easy and fun to use, not only can you take pictures but you can also record mini movies and download mp3 music on to it.
This camera is small and light you can take it with you where ever you go.
when purchased you do not need to worry ... ...a memory card.
This is a great camera with great functions, the pictures come out clear and if you are listening to music or watching that mini movie you recorded the sound quality is excellent.
The only down falls to this camera I have noticed is when you try to take a picture, sometimes you find that it goes really bright and can become a blur, but if this does happen you can always change the setting on the lighting to normal, automatic or off.
