I was getting a bit fed up with my old phone. When it was time to upgrade last year I wanted something a bit different and decided to go for a slide-phone from samsung. Maybe I'm just a victim of trotter-fingers but I kept getting my pinkys caught in it and it was quite a painful experience, so I felt the urge to go back to a nice, basic bar phone that would cause rather less damage.
This phone is small and light, and comes in a variety of interesting colours. I am a vodafone girl, so it was easy enough to swap the SIM from my contract phone into this, which you have to buy as a pay as you go model. In the vodafone shop it was £30 + £10 top-up, which I didn't need but may come in handy if I decide to keep the other phone in the car for emergencies.
The screen is relatively small compared to other makes, and the picture quality isn't fantastic, but when all you want is to text and call people this isn't the biggest problem in the world. Unlike lots of of people, I just want a phone to be a phone (with calculator and alarm clock options) so in this respect it suits me fine. I like the fact that vodafone have started their own range; they are fairly basic phones but seem to have been well-thought out.
I find mobile phones to be very personal objects. In use mine daily and being quite tactile, I have to like the look and feel of things I use regularly. The back of this phone has a tactile, indented texture (like a golf ball, but less deep...) and there is a smooth silver edge that distinguishes between the front and the back sections. The buttons are smooth but have that satisfying 'click' when you press them that lets you know that the pressure's been registered. The select button in the middle has that same quality and I really like the circle around it that you can use to navigate your way around. Navigation I found very intuitive and I was quickly setting it up to my own specifications, including shortcut keys and screensavers. When you first start up there are help menus that pop up and guide you through each section.
The technical bits.... On board you have:
A Camera (with X4 zoom and even a timer!) Bluetooth MP3 Player (need to use a 1GB memory card) FM radio Mobile Internet And it comes in 6 colours! I have Violet and you have options on Black, White, Yellow, Sky (blue) or Candy Pink.
The set-up is like a nokia and seems very familiar to nokia fans such as myself. The things letting this phone down are the quality of the screen and the ringtones it comes with - they are truly awful and I suppose this is designed to make you go out and buy less embarrassing tones off the internet. I'm off to do that right now. Or you can set it to vibrate if you want to save a few pennies. Other than that, this is a really good, basic phone and I'm really pleased I took a chance on it. I like the way it feels, it's small and light so fits into any pocket, it's not so expensive I feel like I couldn't use it for fear of damage and I like the colour too!
