Mobile internet at home or on the move

Advantages: Easy to install. Broadband with a phone line
Disadvantages: Connection speed dependent on O2 signal strength.

Due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to persuade BT to supply me with a standard home phone line and am unable to receive any form of broadband through the ?Pay & Call? line that they would allow, but I still wanted to be able to access the internet. So I spent a little while looking through my options and decided that Pay As You Go mobile broadband through O2 was the best solution. In order to access the mobile broadband I had to purchase a suitable modem and this, the E160 was on sale in Phones 4 U at a pretty reasonable price of £24.99 (it?s also available free on the pay monthly option). For under £25 I received a fairly small box containing the modem itself, a USB lead, quick start guide, terms and conditions and SIM card. I was surprised that there was no driver disc or user manual but soon discovered that both are ...

AT LAST - A BROADBAND CONNECTION BT CAN'T MESS UP

Advantages: Simple to setup, no need for a telephone line
Disadvantages: Expensive, some webistes blocked

Up and Go above the pay monthly option purely because I wasn?t overly keen in getting into a contract for a product I hoped to be using a matter of days, or a week tops. For £39 my dongle came preloaded with 1GB of Data usage (£15) so I could plug it in and start using it immediately, then when the balance dropped a simple top up keeps things moving. So what?s mobile broadband then? Well, the clue is very much in the name. Mobile broadband is a broadband connection for your laptop or PC, using the mobile phone providers wireless 3G network rather than traditional wires and cables. Basically you plug a dongle into your computer and it acts like a modem transferring and receiving data as a normal router or modem might, but it has a SIM card in it which gives it its identity, much like a mobile phone. Depending on whether you plump ...

Great Multimedia Wireless Router from Belkin

Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Easy to configure, Lots of features, USB for sharing drives
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, Not full speed with every machine

of features and even a USB port for sharing files on drives - Lifetime manufacturer's warranty! CONS - Too sensitive to power cuts - A bit expensive - Not full speed on my laptop despite it having a Wireless N network card VERDICT This is one of the best routers I've ever used and it hasn't given me any grief until I had a power cut, which pretty much broke it. However, it survived a further 2-3 power cuts so maybe it was a one off. It is a bit on the expensive side but not as much as business routers. There is another router from Belkin that costs even more than this one but that one tells you your broadband speed and other stuff on a display on the router itself, how cool is that? As for this Belkin N+ modem router, it has all the features you could need and more unless you need VPN (connects you to a network securely over ...
