I have been with Vodafone now for nearly three years. I brought my first phone on pay as you go on and I was spending a fortune on top ups.

I then a year later decided to buy a contract phone on Vodafone to save me money on my calls by having the free minutes off peak to call people. This actually did not work out much cheaper than top ups because I always was texting more than calling.

I admit it I am a text addict and when my bill came in each month I was horrified to see how many I sent each month but it didn't stop me did it. My bill was around £60 - 70 per month in just texting. I wish I could have got out of the habit, but still to this day I text too much. I have actually now a genie sim card where I can send 300 text messages free every month.

This was great when I first received it and my next two bills were only £30 including the line rental. I have since then forgotten I had it and I have been using my Vodafone a lot more and my bills have increased again.

It is a pain to remember and keep changing the sim card.

I also have an O2 contract sim card and I use this a lot more than my vodafone because it is more suitable to me.

Anyway the reason I have stuck with Vodafone in the past is because I have always gotten fairly good coverage with them where ever I have been in the country.I have also found there services to be of a high standard and their prices and ranges of tarriffs to be very good and competitive.

I have tried all the other networks on pay as you go and none of them were as good and also the customer services I received from them was very poor compared to Vodafone.

Vodafone also offer a variety of services
I have found out since I have had my Vodafone that I can set up or I can deactivate my voice mail when I want to. You can receive alerts when you have voice mail waiting, you can get the time, you can find out who last called you and when. Many of these services are not provided by the other networks and I find them very useful.

Also since I have been on Vodafone I have always been informed of new services and I have not received this from any other of my network providers.

The following reasons for me choosing and sticking with Vodafone in the past have been:-

Many relatives and my boyfriend are with Vodafone
Excellent coverage all over Britain, sometimes a few problems in London though
A wider variety of services
A wider choice of tariffs and at competitive prices
Excellent customer services

On Vodafone pre pay like all other networks, you can check you remaining balance top up by voucher or register a card and top up by your card.

Choosing a network used to be dependant on what your friends and family were on, but now all offer x network minutes so it now does not matter.
To me the choice of price plan, price and the customer services are the most important.

The second thing which made me choose Vodafone originally was the call charges.

When I first purchased my phone back in 1999 Vodafone offered the cheapest call charges. Since then they have increased slightly and their price plans are also I have gotten to know Vodafone very well and the not as extensive now and are not as cheap as they were.

Vodafone have also offered me some great services in the past.

However last month they reduced the number of price plans and they have called them perfect fit. Looking at them and the prices I do not believe they are a perfect fit, well not for me anyway.

I am currently on a plan leisure 500 with 50 text and usually use between 400 and 500 minutes per month. This currently costs me £18.99 per month. As from the 1st of September they are going to increase my line rental by £2 per month. The closest tarriff they have to what I want is a offpeak and weekend tarriff for £20 per month but you only get 300 minutes.

I think their price plans are way too expensive for what they are.

They have also given me the option to cancel my contract early which I am going to do. I know it is only £2 per month more to pay to them but I signed a contract for £18.99 per month, not £20.99. It is more the principle.

I do have another contract with O2 and can just increase my minutes on that one for cheaper than have 2 contracts.

Also I only use my mobile and don't have access to a landline and with o2 I can call 0845. 0800 and 0870 numbers which are included within my free minutes. Also I get free voice mail and it does not eat into my free minutes. So O2 is much more suitable for me and probably many others of you too.

If you only use your mobile phone to make all your calls consider cancelling your Vodafone and choosing O2. I am currently on the O2 network but my service provider in Carphone Warehouse and they are execellent. I could not fault them in any way, shape or form.

O2 direct, well that's another storey. (see my buyer beware op on O2 and you will see what I mean).

I am definately not keeping my Vodafone because their price plans are rubbish now in my opinion and too expensive.

Thanks for reading

Chantal

I was pretty annoyed by their increase of £2 a month on all old tariffs.. simply a plan on their part to get existing customers to switch to their new bad value, expensive tariffs. I'm sticking until the end of the 12 months on my old vodafone contract and will then be leaving for another network. Sorry but if thats how you treat loyal customers (4 years) Vodafone... Dave
