Vodafone is the UKs biggest network, providing the country with mobile telecommunications services. They have more customrrs than any other UK network, and it doesn't look like it will change anytime soon.
My contract with Vodafone is run through Singlepoint, this basically means that I'm billed through a company other than Vodafone itself. The main reason I chose Vodafone was due to the fact that a good majority of my friends are on it. I couldn't face the high monstrous other network charges any more and decided to jump ship, I was previosuly with Orange.
Vodafone has a huge number of tariffs to choose from, one of the most varied the that any UK network has to offer. Theres something for everyone, from low users, medium users and high users of their mobile phone. Theres even packages for peak users and off peak users. In short there is a tariff to suit your particular lifestyle.
Along with the good range of tariffs comes the huge range of handsets that are available. It is much larger than one2one and Orange due to fact that they customise their phones for release whilst Vodafone sell the phone straight from manufacturers. The handset I chose was the Nokia 6510.
The tariff I am on is the minute saver 200 with 50 text messages inclusive. The monthly price I pay is £28. The call charges are reasonable. Calls to other Vodafone customers and landlines are charged at 10p per min for peak and 5p per min for off peak. This seems to be the average for same network calls today. My only quibble with my tariff is the huge price to other networks, 50p/30p peak/off peak. This is much more than I used to pay when I was orange! Which was 30p peak, 12p off peak. This is the only problem that I see with my tariff. Text messages are 12p each. The good thing about Vodafone is that will rollover any unused minutes for up to two months so that you don't get cheated out of unused mintues which you paid for in the first place!
Vodafone offer a number of services to supplement its services. Theres the usual expected voicemail, along with WAP and soon to be initiated GPRS which looks interesting as it charges not by the time you are online but how much data you recieve, although the prices don't look too convincing so far.
The reliability of Vodafone is second to none, very rarely will the signal be poor. Let alone no signal at all, ala one2one! Vodafones customer service is quite good, not as good as Orange but good none the less. Calls are answered quickly without being put on hold which is good.
The international roaming is very useful as I call abroad to my friends who like to travel. Although it costs them to recieve it costs me the same as if they were still in the UK! Overall I would say between Vodafone and Orange I would put them on a par with each other, each has its faults and advantages. You can't go wrong with Vodafone unless you like to call people on other networks!

Think you have been stiched up on this deal Chris. I pay £13.99 inc. V.A.T. for minute saver 300 + 50 texts. I only re-signed this month. That also includes keeping my previous number which cost £2 a month last year. Mark

Advantages: Good range, able to offer you good customer care and change talk plans top up e.t.c because they are part of Vodafone. Disadvantages: Slightly more expensive for Accesories.
