Spot the difference Advantages: Disadvantages: The VW Sharan is a monster MPV. Its identical to the Alhambra by SEAT and the Ford Galaxy. Having driven the Galaxy as well as the Sharan, I can vouch for this. Peas in a pod, so buying the Sharan for its superior VW build quality is a waste of money, They are all as badly bolted together as each other. The option of five or seven seats is practical until you wish to remove the two extra seats. The drive is actually quite good and the 1.8 turbo engine pulls the massive weight well, but don’t exoect to turn up at Santa Pod and compete on any level. Boot space is restricted with seven seats in place and this for me is the paradox. PEOPLE CARRIERS Advantages: Sport kit, alloys, CD player, air con. and Turbo as standard Disadvantages: Extortionate price for tyres as they are reinforced. Only one remote control key issued. People Carriers: great for transporting kids but poor luggage space. VW Sharan and Ford Galaxy have the same chassis and the same tyres!! So far have had the Sharan for 8 months and a few faults have emerged. 1.Purchased vehicle from VW dealer who had shipped it in from another branch with log book and service paperwork missing. They then took 6 months to arrive! 2.Insist on seeing car on a sunny day, coz when wet the paintwork looks immaculate ... ...when test driving in the rain you are not likely to look under the car when get back to dealer. So, cracked glass in fog lights and missing key for locking wheel nuts can be missed. When you return to dealer to complain, you have to create a scene to get the faults fixed. 3.Front wheel drive, so check for wear and tear on front tyre tread, especially in the middle of the tread pattern. VW - Why to Buy (updated) Advantages: Reliable, spacous, can't hear wife nag when she's in the back seat Disadvantages: High petrol costs (go for diesel if poss), our's smells of kiddie sick We own: 'P' Reg VW Sharan (£6,750 - used), petrol, metallic blue, electric windows, sunroof, power steering, Sony radio, twin airbags. This is my 1st review, please have a read and judge accordingly. In Jan 2002, our family increased by 2 after the arrival of our twin daughters, so we needed a car that would comfortably fit 2 adults and 4 children that was car seat friendly, and spacious enough for bags and a double buggy. The VW Sharan, it has to ... ...reliable, and an easy drive. It handles all road types with ease and cruises comfortably. The interior is basic but sufficient, and let's face it, you're not going to be boy racing in this or blasting out the music (the only Kenwood we have is a food mixer). This is a car that is built for the family and lugging half the kitchen around. Most car seats will fit the Sharan, but obviously check first before you buy (either the seat or the car). VW Golf Dec 2001 SE TDI (90bhp) 5dr Advantages: solid, reliable, economical and safe Disadvantages: the handbrake design This was my first ever VW I bought this via an action when it was 18 months (June 2003), the car had 24,000 miles and FSH. It was around 16k new I paid around 10k for it, thought that was a good deal. Drivability is very smooth and comfortable compared to my last car, Peugeot 106. Just was I need as I drive over 500 miles a week. Fuel economy is great, I average around 60mpg if I am very sensible around 68mpg. It is still nippy enough with the ninety ... ...reasonable enough and the tax is £120 per year Safety is well thought out with front airbags, side airbags and side impact bars the car has 4 encap safety stars. The all disk breaking and abs means you can get it stop pretty quickly when needed. It also has a very low sump to it sticks to the round on the corners, although you have to be carefully with bumps and kerbs.
