The engine is powerful enough for the weight of the car. A particularly commendable feature of the car is that on a long run, it will actually return 55mpg.

Personally I think the smaller standard Golf is better aesthetically and this variant could even be described as ... more
This vw was purchased in May 2006 for approx 13500 pounds as a replacement for the aging Vw Passat that had clocked up nearly 200000 miles.
The Vw Golf was initially launched in the early 70's and quickly became an iconic car. This is actually the Mark 5 version. Traditionally the Vw Golf was initially available in three derivatives the three and five door hatchback and four door saloon known as the Jetta.
The Plus variant is a new model that Vw developed in 2005 to counter competition from cars such as the Citroen Xsara Picasso and Vauxhall Zafira.
Underneath the car is mechanically identical to the standard golf however the added benefit with this version is that its taller and therefore has slightly more rear and boot space than its shorter cousin.
The vehicle that we opted for was a metallic blue car. The vehicle came with a black interior, which is certainly more dour than the more inviting beige upholstery of our previous car.
The vehicles specification comprised
Driver and Passenger Airbags Side Airbags Curtain Bags Anti Lock Brakes Trip Computer Air Conditioning Remote Central Locking All Around Electric Windows
The car was awarded the top 5 Star NCAP Rating which certainly gives you reassurance should the worst happen.
It was certainly a disappointment that the car did not have the climate control that we specified as an extra on our previous car. The seats are also significanly less comfortable than the Passats and the tables on the back of the seats can jar your knee under sudden braking.

Reliability/Quality
The car has been faultless since we've owned it but the quality of the switchgear and plastics seems to be getting worse on Vw's these days rather than better.
Overall
A pretty good safe car however does have glaring faults
Advantages: responsive steering, brakes. good supportive seats. I like the way you can adjust the angle of the backrest on the rear seats Disadvantages: road noise more pronounced than I expected thought no worse than my friends new C4.
I bought my Golf Plus 1.9 S TDi 105 in November last year and following on from a 2002 1.6 Renault Scenic I have mixed feelings. The driving experience is great, really responsive with accurate steering and brakes. gear-change is positive and precise. Seats are firm but hold well. I have had a bother trying to get the best driving position as the seats tilt forwards as you raise them up, so to get the best I have the seat slightly lower than I would ... ...and rake however so when you are happy with the seat the wheel just needs to be brought forward. The rear seats adjust forward and back and fold nearly flat, also you can adjust the angle of the back rest. You get a fold down (small) table in the middle and lots of small areas for putting your bits and pieces, a good sized glove compartment and door pockets all of which have a bottle holder built in. I miss all the under seat storage of my Scenic ...
