I thought I had better edit my review since further dealing with Volkswagen, but have left the original review, as it all still stands.

Volkswagen car dealership in Grimsby has left me very unhappy. I bought my automatic polo from them for £3995. Its W reg, and considering the lack of autos about, and the fact it had only done 55,000 miles, I thought the price wasn't bad. It came with 12 months tax and 10 months MOT, as the MOT had just been done a month and a bit ago.

All in all I was pleased. I had no problems with the car and didn't need to return. That was until I needed to have my MOT done. They did the mOT, told me the parts that failed, adn gave me a very expensive quote for the repairs.

I obtained a quote from a second garage, adn to my amazement, not only was the quote much cheaper, but the VW staff had not noticed a fault in the car that would fail the MOT and make the car very dangerous to be driving. As I had not had anything done to the car since I bought it, I was quite angry when I realised they had sold it to me in an unfit state in the first place.

I went back to VW and explained the situation, which they assured me couldnt be the case. However, when they looked under the car, they realised it was, adn quickly appologised. That didn't make me feel much better as I have been driving the car for 10 months and somehow not had an accident due to this fault. They have very conveniently found a warranty for the car (I was assured when I bought it that there was none) so most of the repairs can be done cheaper.

It has taken over a month to sort out the hassle and problems, not due to my car being in a horrific condition, but the Volkswagen team. I arranged to have it booked in for several weeks later so they would have ordered parts ready to fix my little car. It was booked in for the day, but at the end of the day I received a phone call asking if it could be kept a further day. As I was on holiday this was not a problem and they promised me it would be ready by lunchtime the next day.

When I turned up to pay the bill and collect it, they said the part they had ordered (several weeks earlier?) had not arrived, so they couldnt do the work yet. I didnt want to drive a dangerous car, but they assured me the part was being couriered that night, and would be ready by the end of the next day.

It was not to be! The part didnt arrive, and so they did a patch up job (despite still trying to charge me for a complete new exhust), adn also broke something else while doing the work that would cost about £180 to put right! I refused to pay for this as it was their mistake.

But all that meant was they needed my car for longer. After searching for 3 days, they finally managed to find me a hire car (automatic) for the 5th day i was without one, but by that point I had spent 5 of my 7 days holiday without transport! But I accepted, they were paying.

In the end, I had a hire car for free, free drinks and a free service, plus money off my bill as a way of saying sorry for messing up the whole process and me being without a car for so long. It seems a lot of effort to make to keep a customer happy, but had they not sold me a dangerous car to begin with, there would have been no need.

I wont be taking my car there for its MOT next year.
