I bought a 1986 volvo 240 last year for £350.It has aspecial edition engine with extra horsepower and goes like a rocket. The seats are the comfiest I have ever sat on and are heated with lumber support. An automatic gearbox with dropdown fourth gear provides effortless driving and top speed is 120m.p.h.It has disc brakes all round and still has the tightest turning circle for a car of its size even today.Everything about the car is well thought out and even the shape is classic a proper car.Bits are easy to get and are cheap. It starts first time every time.I would reccomend buying one if you want a cheap relible car in aclass of its own but hurry up because they are getting rare.
Advantages: Very smooth, fast motorway cruiser with excellent build quality Disadvantages: Heavy on fuel, lack of internal storage space
I hadn't thought of BMW before but that changed one wet Monday when with a screech of tortured rubber, the back end of my elderly but serviceable Volvo240 was forcibly rearranged by someone with only a passing knowledge of wet braking conditions.
Needing an estate for work, I asked my friendly motor trade contact to sort something out. He suggested a 5 series touring. And why not I thought...
So, a while later, a rather nice K reg turns up - I break the piggy bank open & hey presto! I'm now a BMW owner - although this one does seem to be fitted with the indicators that judging from the behaviour of many owners, must surely be optional!
It's the E34 model, so a few years old but doesn't look at all dated. It gives the right impression when turning up anywhere on business and although it's done nearly 100k miles, there's no rust ...

Advantages: Very Spacious, Looks lovely when clean, If you can really drive then this baby can move. Disadvantages: Me personally would like a bigger engine in it, and the electric window button is definately in the wrong place
I do like cars and i have driven a few. I am unable to tell you exactly what is under the bonet other than the basic's, i.e. where the oil goes, water, and spark plugs are and how to change a wheel, however i must add that i have never done that to date.
Well you know what it's like, ive got a washing machine and i know how it works but i don't want to know everything about it so that i can fix it if it doesn't work...... well the same can be said of me and cars.
Firstly i would like to say that i absolutely love to drive and have since i was 17. I learnt to drive in a big car (granada) and have loved big cars since, along the way years ago i had a volvo240 estate and that was a good car, i could throw it round and it would stick to the road like glue and was built to last and strong and that always stayed with me whilst i ...

Advantages: Solid, Tough, over engineered, great in snow, good seats, neutral handling Disadvantages: dumpy looks, rust, poor build quality
that's what it feels like. Handling is Volvo neutral and very, very surefooted in the wet. Because it is comfortable and surefooted you do get the feeling of being indestructible and end up driving like Toad from Wind in the Willows shouting "get out of my way" all the time at other drivers! I was once driven at high speed by a taxi driver from Leeds late one night in a Volvo240 who scared me silly and until I drove one I didn't know why he drove like that! Comparing the GLT to the 205 GTI I drove at the time is like chalk and cheese. Show the two a dry road and the 205 will run rings round the Volvo - no surprises then - but show them both a wet road when it's chucking it down and you may not be on the road for long in the 205! The 360 is a very safe handling car and also works very well in the snow because of its rear placed gearbox ...
