OK, it's not going to win any design awards, except maybe for safety, but I'm on my second old 340 and I am all to pleased to be driving it. Having travelled lots of miles in lots of different cars, the 340 still is the most comfy (forget all the BMW's and big executive cars) and when you get five guys the fat gits that are my friends, it's still big enough and has the guts in the engine to keep going. I was shocked to find that is also more fuel efficient than my old proton, despite having a significantly bigger engine. And my last one got to 155000 miles before the problems started....looks like another 100K with this one then...

I also have a Volvo 340 and I agree with a lot that was said here, although I get the destinct impresion that mine won't last as long (must be my driving). My partner was hit by an large truck five days after buying our first 340 and the car could still be driven afterwards although it looked slightly different than when we bought it. If you've got children and you wory about their safety in the back you know what to buy.

THE WHEELS ON THE CAR GO ROUND AND ROUND ROUND AND ROUND ROUND AND ROUND THE WHEELS ON THE CAR GO ROUND AND ROUND ALL DAY LONG!!!!!!!!!!!
Advantages: Looks great, nippy for the engine size, economy good, big boot, tough. Disadvantages: 1.2 16v. Seat recline on three door is cack, Sun Roof pointless.
