I think the fact that there are so many of these cars still on the road speaks volumes for itself. How many cars do you see with 100,000 + on the clock and still going, well mine is.
My silver bullet as i call her is the 340 GLE 1.7 hatchback model, she has 148,000 on the clock, was registered in 1989 (F REG ),and has a go-faster spoiler on the back, she is very economical to run and has never let me down yet.
Ive had her now for 17 months and all ive had to replace is the clutch, brakes and steering rack. Her engine retains all the original parts and her ex-owner wishes hed never parted with her. Ive had a CD system fitted and some groovy loud speakers so that i can blast the ultra modern cars out !
She is a very fast car, ive often cruised down the motorway, looked down at the speedo and realised that im way over the speed limit. Her heaters kick out good heat and the cooling fan works really well, included in my model is air-conditioning...the sun roof !!! Electric windows too.
She is great at pulling small loads with no strain on the engine. She is solidly built, a bit like a tank, i find her very light on the steering and i feel really safe in her. I did have a slight bang in her last year when i reversed into the side of a car, there was no damage at all to my car because of the very big protective bumpers but the car i hit at 5mph on the back quarter was a mess.
I find her seating to be very roomy and easily accomodates 3 adults in the back and in my honest opinion i find the drivers seat to be like my armchair. The gears are nice and easy too. The boot is a very good size for the shopping, i can very easy fit in about £160 of groceries.
For women with children this is the car i definately recommend and trust.
Agood all-rounder which we will see for more years yet on the road.
I paid £300 for my silver bullet 17 months ago and to me she has been worth every pound.
Estate - Front (FWD) - 6 Speed - (Man) / 6 Speed Geartronic - (Auto) - 2401 cc - Max Speed: 140 mph - 185 bhp - Diesel - Available Trims: R-DESIGN, R-DESIGN Premium, SE, SE Lux, SE Lux Premium, SE Premium, S, Sport
Saloon - Front (FWD) - 6 Speed - (Man) / 6 Speed Geartronic - (Auto) - 2401 cc - Max Speed: 143 mph - 185 bhp - Diesel - Available Trims: S, SE, SE Lux, SE Sport, Sport
Advantages: Looks great, nippy for the engine size, economy good, big boot, tough. Disadvantages: 1.2 16v. Seat recline on three door is cack, Sun Roof pointless.
