Toyota to Volvo passover

Advantages: Bigger, stronger, quieter and better
Disadvantages: None so far.

...a Carina II, to a Volvo 850 has been absolutely painless. Coming into the dealership was the start of a very good experience so far, with great service, attentive staff and mechanics, and a good selection of cars. This being an 850, it is used, but with an acceptable amount of miles on on it, and despite the large engine (a 2.4 litre petrol engine squeezing out 144 horses) the MPG is good. The car runs smooth and straight, and the only drawback ...

Volvo 740 with a V6 a la 760GLE

Advantages: Solidity, chassis strength, crash safety, brakes, design
Disadvantages: Lack of access to common service items, fuel consumption

I tried to find a Volvo 760 section in Ciao but alas this wasn't provided. For the purists to include a V6 in the four cylinder section is blasphemous, so I hope I haven't put any noses out of joint. The Volvo 760 was designed to satisfy the Volvo 740 buyer who wanted silky smooth V6 performance and torque to spare for towing and cruising in the same well known 740 rear-drive body. The objective was mostly achieved through the use of the overhead ...
...604 and Volvo 264, however the first series of engine until '89 used the Bosch mechanical injection system which was prone to requiring excessive maintenance and adjustment and was a thirsty compromise. It wasn't until the '89 model where Volvo employed the L-Jetronic pused injectors on a conventional fuel rail that this model approached acceptable levels of reliability and servicability. On my own Volvo 760 points of frustrating note are: 1) The ...

Volvo V70 D5 - Very well built, spacious, safe, packed with toys.

...beyond. Needless to say being Volvo there is plenty of safety features, with traction control, ABS, side impact protection, and passenger air curtains plus more. With the V70 you will get a high specification car, with the same features usually costing much more on equivalents such as the BMW 5 series tourer, and with the benefit it is more spacious and versatile and no disadvantages. If you want a large versatile car, large enough for the whole ...

S80 2.4 Auto - Long Term Report

Advantages: Safe, smooth, relaxing
Disadvantages: Expensive to maintain

Having owned an S80 for a couple of years I can report the following: The car is pleasant to drive. It is very relaxing, the comfort levels are top notch and the whole experience leaves one feeling fresh even after long drives. Fast approaching the 100,000 mile mark the car shows no signs of flagging. The motor (the 170bhp model) is effortless and the suspension smoother than the sportier S60 models. With reasonable driving the fuel consumption ...
...driving will see this take a nose dive! This is a big car - if you travel on narrow roads or have limited parking this may not be the car for you. The servicing costs are somewhat greater than any other car I have owned, but the onboard computer is a reassurance that there are no nasty problems going unnoticed. As a second hand purchase the S80 is a bargain. It is definitely executive class, whilst most second hand users in this class go for BMW ...
