Toyota to Volvo passover
Advantages: Bigger, stronger, quieter and better Disadvantages: None so far.
...a Carina II, to a Volvo 850 has been absolutely painless. Coming into the dealership was the start of a very good experience so far, with great service, attentive staff and mechanics, and a good selection of cars.
This being an 850, it is used, but with an acceptable amount of miles on on it, and despite the large engine (a 2.4 litre petrol engine squeezing out 144 horses) the MPG is good. The car runs smooth and straight, and the only drawback ...

The Volvo 850TDi Estate
Advantages: Reliable, cheap on fuel and great fun with the carrying capacity of a removal van! Disadvantages: None, except perhaps getting a little old in the tooth!
Living with the Volvo TDi is a pleasure; there you are travelling in comfort with up to seven of you if you have the rear child seat option and your doing 40 plus mpg while travelling with the whole family at well above the UK legal limit.
Owning one of these will constantly leave smiles on your face, help move the office, family, friends etc etc the back with the seats down will take two five drawer filing cabinets plus the trolley to move them ... ...comfortable, safe and built with Volvo rugged reliability and this could be the last car you buy because they are also renown for going around the clock mileage wise! Servicing is every 10,000 miles and isn’t cheap but then its expensive keeping the ark royal going and you’ll soon think that with all this versatility you have your own private aircraft carrier!
Handling for a car is fantastic with little body-roll or sway and when you consider this ...

Better than you think
Advantages: General loveliness. Disadvantages: Fiddley to replace headlamp bulbs.
...the world.
Exterior is typical volvo quality somehow manages to look a cut above mid-range cars.
The 2.4 D5 diesel engine is an absolute gem (at least so far). Nice sound to it ;hard to believe it's a diesel. It's truly punchy and can surprise you with its acceleration and eats up motorway miles easily. (0-60 approx 8.0secs. Top speed 143mph)
The best thing for me is the fuel consumption I regularly get 41 - 43 in general driving. But most remarkably ... ...of 330 miles I got 62mpg!!!
Admittedly there were no hold ups at all on the journey and I drove carefully but not too slowly. I filled up before I left and drove 660 miles in total there and back and still had a weeks worth of petrol for gadding about on. At the start of the journey I had to drive many miles in a 50mph zone and reached 67.5 mpg. If I'd carried on all the way at that speed i felt sure I could have achieved 70mpg.
The disadvantages ...

Staggering miles per gallon
Advantages: Excellent fuel economy Disadvantages: Does not have the luxury fittings of theV70
...big as the 70 series.
Volvo have worked hard on the fuel economy and the start/stop technology adds around 9 mpg to the standard 1.6 Drive fuel economy. At standstill the vehicle cuts out and engages almost instantaneously when first gear is engaged. I am told that Volvo have improved the starters enormously and it is supported by a second battery. although there are small cars, including hybrids which achieve better economy, I do not believe that ... ...usual safety feature sof a Volvo and will cost around £20,000 plus the cost of options which can take it up to around £28,000. One of the other big advantages of the car is the low co2 emissions at 104g/km for the 1.6 DRIVe with start/stop technology. For company car drivers, this will translate into big savings in the tax paid on the company car, as it will be taxed at the lowest HMRC rate of 10% of the value of the vehicle. For example, a car costing ...

Volvo 440 GLI Auto - Tough as Old Boots
Advantages: Great All Round Vehicle Disadvantages: No electric windows
Hi acquired a Volvo 440 GLI Auto on a J reg a couple of months ago for the princely sum of £50, obviously out of tax and test. The car had been sitting for nearly a year and flew through the MOT with only a sidelight having to be replaced. This car seems to be absolutely sound with no signs of rust amazing considering it is 18 years old. The car is built very well indeed and feels very solid and safe inside. The interior is nothing special being ... ...for the type of car of it, dosen't feel to much like a boat in the corners and irons out bumps nicely. I would have never considered a Volvo before I got offered this one cheap, would now most probably be prepared to get another at some point. ...
