S80 2.4 Auto - Long Term Report
Advantages: Safe, smooth, relaxing Disadvantages: Expensive to maintain
Having owned an S80 for a couple of years I can report the following:
The car is pleasant to drive. It is very relaxing, the comfort levels are top notch and the whole experience leaves one feeling fresh even after long drives.
Fast approaching the 100,000 mile mark the car shows no signs of flagging. The motor (the 170bhp model) is effortless and the suspension smoother than the sportier S60 models. With reasonable driving the fuel consumption ... ...driving will see this take a nose dive!
This is a big car - if you travel on narrow roads or have limited parking this may not be the car for you.
The servicing costs are somewhat greater than any other car I have owned, but the onboard computer is a reassurance that there are no nasty problems going unnoticed.
As a second hand purchase the S80 is a bargain. It is definitely executive class, whilst most second hand users in this class go for BMW ...

Owning a Volvo S80
Advantages: Extremely well built reliable and comfortable vehicle Disadvantages: Very low to the ground and can be thirsty on fuel
The Volvo S80 is the Volvo flagship and inherits the build quality and reliability that Volvo is renown for. The smooth six-cylinder engine is quiet and reliable but if pushed can be thirsty with less than 18 mpg. Its not a BMW 528 and so you cant throw the S80 around in the same manner; but on the other hand its built with so many safety features you are at least safe and extremely comfortable. Its capable of 145 mph where the plod turn a blind ... ...your going that fast!
Volvo servicing is excellent and the agents tend to “look” after you like no other dealers, but again don’t expect cheap prices this is a £30,000+ car and when it does need parts, they wont be cheap!
Comfort is the big thing with this car, the moment you sink into the leather interior and adjusting the seat, electronic memory for 3 drivers plus adjusting the steering to suit you just know its going to be a great journey.

Travel in comfort.
Advantages: Comfortable, well built, big but moves well. Disadvantages: Difficult to park.
...- check your child seat; Volvo make their own and a number of others are not recommended.
Without the reverse warning equipment reversing into a tight parking spot is a two person activity, even a 6ft tall driver cannot see the back of the car. It is a big car and I often have to pass on even marked parking spaces.
I've driven many large saloons but this does take a little time to get used to the feel of the car on manoeuvring, certainly more than ...

An all time favorite of mine
Advantages: Very comfortable and a good everyday car Disadvantages: Slightly expensive
...with this new model the volvo car has been looking up, reviewed in top gear as rivaling a bmw 5 series and mercedes the volvo has stepped up its game and is ready to take on the major rivals. The volvo S80 never became an accomplishment of volvo better known for their xc90, however this car is new, good looking and has all the gadgets and accesories to suit our needs. Coming with a basic package as standard but when adding the executive pack to the ... ...is expensive it is more than worth it. The ride has been stiffened more to increase handling but without affecting the ride comfort of the car which is incredibly good. The inside accesories are overwhelming in the executive model and added extras are still available for those with more cash to spend. however i would recomend the standard executive that comes with all the basics because most add on accesories cost alot and are not all that important. ...
