V50 just what you'd expect from a Volvo

Advantages: Compact yet spacious enough
Disadvantages: Dodgy ignition system

Driving over 40,000miles a year I need a solid, safe, dependable vehicle that has the capacity to carry a good amount of stuff and on occasion several dogs and do so in a calm, comfortable way. The V50 fits the bill. Although a bit smaller than my previous V70 it still performs admirably and has a good turn of speed when you need it. Fuel economy is good if driven sensibly (usually around 48mpg although I have acheived 55+) and still pretty good ...
...they are. My overall rating would have been excellent but for the fact that the somewhat unusual ignition system has failed twice and on both occasions needed replacing, taking the car off the road for a week each time. Dont let that put you off though, build quality is very good and aside the ignition I cant fault it. ...

...the new Audi A4, a Volvo V50 1.8SE, and finally the Jaguar X-type 2.0D S Estate. All three cars had features that really stood out, and whilst the Jag won out in the end I thought I'd share a few things about the Volvo with you. Being on the road a lot, and having a young child, there are certain things that I need from a car. I do some seriously long journeys so comfort is paramount, as are safety and reliability. Needless to say, it has to provide ...
...side impact protection airbags, the Volvo also includes an inflatable curtain for added protection. The V50 also features a Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) and Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake distribution and assistance systems. ~ Features ~ I have to say that this is one of the areas the Volvo really exceeded my expectations. The temperature in the car is maintained by ECC (Electronic Climate Control) with AQS (Air Quality ...

Advantages: Excellent fuel economy
Disadvantages: Does not have the luxury fittings of theV70

...big as the 70 series. Volvo have worked hard on the fuel economy and the start/stop technology adds around 9 mpg to the standard 1.6 Drive fuel economy. At standstill the vehicle cuts out and engages almost instantaneously when first gear is engaged. I am told that Volvo have improved the starters enormously and it is supported by a second battery. although there are small cars, including hybrids which achieve better economy, I do not believe that ...
...usual safety feature sof a Volvo and will cost around £20,000 plus the cost of options which can take it up to around £28,000. One of the other big advantages of the car is the low co2 emissions at 104g/km for the 1.6 DRIVe with start/stop technology. For company car drivers, this will translate into big savings in the tax paid on the company car, as it will be taxed at the lowest HMRC rate of 10% of the value of the vehicle. For example, a car costing ...

...I am something of a Volvo enthusiast. Indeed, in a recent S60 T5 review, I described Mrs Richada and I, as frustrated "non S60 D5" owners! The larger Volvo's, S60, S80 and V70 are without doubt near or at the top of their respective classes, indeed Mrs Richada says that the ONLY estate car she would be seen in is a V70. At the "bottom" of the range are to be found family sized (slightly larger than Focus) saloon and estate models, the new, in 2004 ...
...you who are non Volvo aficionados, maybe a quick explanation of Volvo's seemingly odd, but in fact quite logical (in Sweden at least!) model nomenclature. S, quite naturally stands for saloon, or if you are reading this in America - sedan! V is maybe a little more obscure, in Volvo speak it represents "Versatile", a new spin on the famous Volvo estates of old. Just to make things a little more puzzling rather than having a V40 and an S40 (as was ...

...the world. Exterior is typical volvo quality somehow manages to look a cut above mid-range cars. The 2.4 D5 diesel engine is an absolute gem (at least so far). Nice sound to it ;hard to believe it's a diesel. It's truly punchy and can surprise you with its acceleration and eats up motorway miles easily. (0-60 approx 8.0secs. Top speed 143mph) The best thing for me is the fuel consumption I regularly get 41 - 43 in general driving. But most remarkably ...
...of 330 miles I got 62mpg!!! Admittedly there were no hold ups at all on the journey and I drove carefully but not too slowly. I filled up before I left and drove 660 miles in total there and back and still had a weeks worth of petrol for gadding about on. At the start of the journey I had to drive many miles in a 50mph zone and reached 67.5 mpg. If I'd carried on all the way at that speed i felt sure I could have achieved 70mpg. The disadvantages ...
