I have owned my Volvo 850 for 5 years now and it has been an excellant car for most of the time. I say most, because just recently it has let my wife down a few times, usually on a short journey by cutting out and not being able to restart it for half an hour or so. The problem although not cured yet is believed to be a fuel pump relay. I have heard other 850's and V70's doing a similar thing so please be aware of this glitch in an otherwise super reliable car. I will update this review when I get a new relay to see if it does cure the fault. I have been camping all over europe in my Volvo it eats up the miles like no car I've ever owned before, even fully loaded it is reasonably economical on a long run. I would recomend anyone buying one though to ensure it has a good service history and not to much damage as bits and pieces are really expensive. I hope this helps any prospective Volvo owners.

Good review, a little more detail would be helpful for future owners maybe.
We've had Volvo's ever since i was young and they are very reliable (and fast ;) !) but ever so slightly ugly and boxy!!
I like the way you dont blame women drivers for it cutting out on your wife!!
oh i dont know....a man that uses a washing machine, a camera and drives a Volvo...what next?!?

Welcome from me, if you have owned one for years then maybe you could write a bit more about it and get better ratings, Sue
Advantages: The 850 TDi has superb fuel economy. The ride is excellent, especially on long distance journeys. Tremendous space for luggage etc. Disadvantages: Large vehicle to park.

Review of Volvo 850
Advantages: You can burn off a Porsche 911, or load it up for a summer camping trip, either way a very useable car! Disadvantages: Some problems on some models are possible, eg Turbocharger can suffer from severe driving.

Review of Volvo 850
Advantages: Reliable, cheap on fuel and great fun with the carrying capacity of a removal van! Disadvantages: None, except perhaps getting a little old in the tooth!
