Yes i'm sure i will get quite a response from this posting, but i just have to say that there are few better cars out there than the volvo 960, yes it isnt quite the prettiest of motors, well honestly its boxy, very boxy. However underneath that ugly, boxy exteriour lie two very impressive things. A new definition of comfort inside with the full electrics, the excellent standard stereo, the full leather interior and all the extras. Secondly you cannot fault the 960's amazing engine, mine has a 2.5 litre 24 valve monster in it. For a big boxy safe car it sure can move, with quick(ish) acceleration and a blistering top speed. What else would anyone want from an executive car. Ok well maybe some of you want the nice exterior to go with it and thats fine, but if you are looking for something a bit different definately give it a look.
Advantages: I have the Estate so space in the big advantage Disadvantages: Fuel consumption is not good but you can't have everything
...taste but they do the job better than most.
It is worth investing in a computer cable for your laptop for this car. You can reset the fault lights, diagnose your own faults reducing garage bills, and remap the on board computer. You do not have to be a computer genius either.
In conclusion, I have had the BMW 740i & 535i, the Mercedes 500L, the Volvo 940/960 and the Jaguar XJ6 4.0L but this car feel and drives far superior to them all. If your not looking for economy then you cannot go wrong with these cars....

Advantages: Reliable and well built Disadvantages: Relatively limited back seat space. Quite poor rear visibility during parking.
...I've been driving this car for nearly 2 years, and overall it's been a trouble-free experience - although not a hugely exciting one, but then again I'm not sure volvos are particularly designed with excitement in mind.
To live with the car is very acceptable, the interior comfort is quite good,.However, the rear seating area is smaller than you would expect of a car of this size. 3 people can be accommodated in the back, but this is far from comfortable for any longer journeys. Also, the front seats are not as supportive as those found higher up the Volvo range, such as in the V70 or even the discontinued 960 models. If I'm looking for niggles, I should probably mention than the glove-box for some unknown reason is designed to kneecap anyone curious enough to attempt opening it. While the cup holders are more like token effort small...
