So to sum up would I recommend one? You bet, do I want another when this one wares out? You bet. And they do not cost that much to insure if you shop around.
Fuel consumption ... ...(something Volvo say can't be done on a T5) Yes the conversion cost a shade over £2,000 but as I return 26 miles to the gallon, and my LPG is only 34 pence a litre, that means I am doing the equivalent of 65 miles to the gallon!!! However I do have the luxury of 20 mile plus journeys on open country roads and no town traffic jams. ... more
Let's start at the beginning. Mine is a C70 2.3ltr high pressure turbo, 240 bhp, automatic, in that gold colour on the front page, first register in 2000. I have owned it for 18 months and covered almost 40,000 miles. The seats and headroom are excellent for me (6'4''). Adjustable steering column (reach and height) nice long arm rest on door, and this is where the first niggle comes in, the centre arm rest is an inch lower than the doors, usually not a problem except on long journeys you finish sitting a little cock eyed. Niggle two how long does it take to get those electric front seats to move to let some one into or out of the back seats. Once in, excellently comfy and well sculptured two seats. That sound system...11 speakers Dolby prologic surround sound and 4x100 watt amp, radio, CD and tape out of this world for a standard fit. The engine and gearbox work very well together, to give very smooth up changing and instant down when you put your foot on the go pedal. No waggling of sticks and messing with left foot pedals just instant go and lots of it. Tyres have been mentioned in other reports and the right choice for your driving style is a must. When I bought the car it had brand new Bridgestone's on all 4 wheels. 6,000 miles later it had Toyo on all four as the Bridgestone's had worn out (excellent grip, no life) The four Toyos lasted 8,000 miles (average grip and no life) and for the last 25,000 miles I have had Avon's on it, but just 6 of them.(average to good grip, good life)

The people who brought you slab-sided safety now give you style and speed. The C70 is as long as the V70 estate with which it shares its platform, but tricks the eye thanks to sculpted sides and narrowing lines front and rear - both firsts for Volvo.
Electric front seats adjust in all directions and give good lateral support; the high waistline gives the impression of sitting low and headroom is generous. There are two proper rear seats and nearly ... ...toys include air-con, cruise control and a superb stereo featuring three-CD autochanger, 10 speakers and 400 watts.
Other raucous sounds come from the 2.5-litre, 240bhp T5 engine. It pulls well with a distinctive five-cylinder growl from low revs, but over 3,000rpm the turbo whistles and the C70 simply flies.
The optional four-speed auto is a good match for the motor, shifting quickly and smoothly to get the most out of its torquey character but ...

...It has a full volvo service history, I can burn up anyone in this car and despite being ex fleet, it still drives almost like new. The engine is quiet and when the turbo kicks in at 3000 revs it really does take off, not with a grunt like some cars, but with a kind of gliding motion as if you were driving on an air hockey table. Fuel consumption does get serious when you put your foot down but driving sensibly offers a lovely ride at with reasonable ... ...careful I know it's a volvo but trust me it goes. And secondly, the running costs are quite high, the tyres cost £100+ the servicing costs £300+ and a new rear bumper cost me a whopping £1000 when some moron went up the rear. Overall the C70 is well worth buying second hand, the high running costs have had me wanting to sell for months now but I just can't bear to live without it. Oh and silly me, the space issue. This is unfortunately not a family ...

...Mercedes 230 Kompressor for a Volvo C70 T5 I thought he'd made a bad judgement, this then went out of the window as soon as we got out on the road. The performance of the C70 T5 is frankly... suprisingly quick. The T5 (turbo) in the C70 automatic will outsprint most other (if not all) cars in its class, the 0-60 is in the low 6's, but remember this car is a sophisticated cruiser for business men rather than a boy racer from The Fast and the Furious. ... ...have to import it. Volvo have put the T5 into the new S40 as well and judging buy the bargain prices you can get older S40's for this is potentially going to be a bargain car in 3-4 years time.
Aesthetically the Volvo doesn't look as good as a Mercedes 230 (my own personal view is that the headlight wipers look tacky and cheap and from the front make a real mess of the car). We parked the Volvo next to a Mercedes 230 and for me there's no contest, ...

Its a beautiful machine, but i doubt many people could pull off a car with this much class. We had one of these in a few weeks back, surprised someone in my area could afford one of these. I cant remember exactly what the problem was, there was some rattling she wanted us to look at, i think it was the dash and the roof. I guess its not that expensive considering all the stuff you get with it; Electric and Heated mirrors, Electric Windows, Metallic ... ...quid, Leather Seats, Air Conditioning etc.. Its not really good at turning though, and it shakes a bit. The design is stylish but the interiors a bit dated. The C70 is smooth i guess. Its not really a family car though, could you really imagine a woman driving around with 2 kids in the back of one of these? The roof goes up and down quick enough, but with the hood up there is that annoyin wind whistle. And theres no use going shopping with the roof ...
