This is the 2.4 Litre, 5 Cylinder (Diesel) Volvo S60
My Dad owns this car but i borrowed it for a few days when i needed a car to drive around in.
I only took out a temporary insurance deal with norwich union which, for 2 weeks, cost me £71.40 which is expensive, but i only needed it for 2 weeks and i wasnt going to pay £4k for a years cover (just because im 18)
The boot space is good and is plenty for shopping, or luggage, although if you carry equipment around which is bulky, you may have a problem, because being a saloon, the boot opening is fairly small.
Although the engine has 163 Bhp which dosent sound a lot for a car this size when you see cars like my mates Renault Clio having 197 Bhp, but the car squeezes every last drop of power and the clio is no match on acceleration or top speed.
The handling round corners is smooth and comfortable, even at high speeds, and the car is fairly easy to park.
The SE package and Winter pack options gave us an Amazing quality stereo system, heated front seats, front lamp washers and a few other extras.
The build quality of the vehicle is fantastic, the leather is of very high quality and everything is built to fit properly, so you dont have bits sticking out here and there.
The ride is very comfortable for the driver and passengers.
Because its a volvo you know your going to be safe in the event of an accident, which is especially comforting for those with families.
The design of this car really does show the new image volvo has, getting rid of the men in checked caps, and now in with modern designs, features aimed at younger generations.
You can pick up one of these second hand for around £9000 but you may be able to get one cheaper depending on the mileage and condition. If you are worried about the car having mileage when you buy it, dont be. Ours has nearly 90,000 miles on it and runs as good as new, I know of other owners with excess of 200 and 300 thousand miles on the clock and never had a problem.
The only faults i have noticed while driving this was the boot openening space (as previously mentioned) and for some reason ours seems to like getting through a fair few light bulbs, nothing excessive though, prehaps have to change each of them once a year, but this is probably because of them being on all the time because its from sweeden. (A volvo dealer will happily plug the car into his computer and change this, so the lighs only come on when you want them to)
Fuel economy is fantastic and i get around 50mpg on average, although i mostly drive on motorways.
The engine noise is fairly quiet and is certainly powerful enough to push you back in your seat if you get a good start off from some traffic lights.
If your a young driver you will get stung on this car for insurance, but if you can afford it GO FOR IT, you will get so much more respect with one of these than you will any little car which is done up with tinted windows.
A huge exhaust, neons .....ect...on a little corsa will just make you look like a pr*t but in one of these you will just look like your flush with cash :-) (and of course go a lot faster and accellerate harder)
Cant go wrong, for families, businessmen, or youngsters who want to be a Hardcharger

Re-rated as requested. I don't get asked for many re-rates. I was a bit fearful of seeing some kind of nasty comment I had left when in a bad mood but you seem to have got away lightly below. You could possibly include info on handling, refinement and any other problems your Dad encountered. As for modding a large Volvo??? Oh, that would look brilliant :-|
Advantages: Refined engine, excellent ride and handling, superb seats and driving position Disadvantages: Interior trim rattles, dissapointing fuel consumption.
