Volvo S60 T5

Right up front I am going to confess that I am writing this as a slightly frustrated non-Volvo S60 driver. Strange statement that don't you think but there we are out here in the big bad world we do not always get what we want……. …….and we (Mrs Richada and I) really wanted a Volvo S60, but ... Good - but not the best Volvo S60

Advantages: Style, performance, comfort, good economy for performance, well built
Disadvantages: Not S60 prime model

...and I) really wanted a Volvo S60, but not as it happens, this the most powerful 220bhp 2.4 litre T5 Sport version. 15 years ago I would have not looked at a Volvo fullstop. However if the S60 had then been on the market, this the fastest one would have been my natural choice.

Maturity and certain financial commitments now mean that I am inclined to make far more rational choices when it comes to choosing a car, no matter if I pay ...
...
How does a Volvo S60 review fall in with the above thinking? Well Volvo are actually a highly enlightened company when it comes to power choices for their stylish upper-mid range four door saloon. There are three choices of petrol engines, starting at a perfectly adequate 180bhp 2.0 litre (31.7mpg average consumption - pretty good), through a 217bhp 2.5 litre (31mpg) to this the 220bhp 2.4 litre, which according to Volvo will still average ... more

How Good Is This

Advantages: Very well made car, super brakes, good performance
Disadvantages: Ride and handling not perfect

...I got a letter from Volvo offering me a test drive in the new Volvo S60. As an encouragement to do so they said I could have a remote controlled S60 free for doing so. So a chance had fallen upon me to drive the new Volvo and satisfy the inner child with a toy one. Not exactly test one get one free but its probably as near as I will get. I booked my test drive through Volvo and duly arrived at the showroom at the appointed hour to drive it. The ...
...I have owned a Volvo before and you can read my review of the S40 I had. My experience with that car was not good. I have also provided test reports on the S70 which is an excellent car and also the S80 which was disappointing. I did offer to take the test convertible (C70) for the weekend if they needed it testing but I think he sensed I was not really in the market for that. So, preamble over, what is the S60 like? Firstly of course its looks. ...

Volvo s60 T5 SE

...second to non. My second Volvo now and its fantastic. The spec inside is incredible, full leather, electronic memory movement and heated seats, dual climate control front and rear, cruise control, 4 disc Cd changer with steering mounted control, electronic trip and information center displays every little bit of info you require about your journey, from boot not closed to front headlamp failure or seatbelts not on. the list goes on and on. ...can think of due to a 0-62mph time of 6.1 seconds, all in a car with beautifully understated sleek line, and on to a restricted speed of 155mph. More incredibly with those figures you can easily return 35mpg on a long motorway jouney, in the pleasure of a luxurious and very quiet cabin. ...

FAR too much for FAR too little!

Advantages: Fast. Comfortable seats. Low wind noise. Good colour choice available.
Disadvantages: Very small. Very cramped. Very expensive. Many expensive options

As any of you who have read my previous car reviews (sorry to bore those of you uninterested in cars - every other review is non-car!) will know that I am something of a Volvo enthusiast. Indeed, in a recent S60 T5 review, I described Mrs Richada and I, as frustrated "non S60 D5" owners! The larger Volvo's, S60, S80 and V70 are without doubt near or at the top of their respective classes, indeed Mrs Richada says that the ONLY estate car she would be seen in is a V70. At the "bottom" of the range are to be found family sized (slightly larger than Focus) saloon and estate models, the new, in 2004 at least, S40 and V50 models. For those of you who are non Volvo aficionados, maybe a quick explanation of Volvo's seemingly odd, but in fact quite logical (in Sweden at least!) model nomenclature. S, quite naturally stands for saloon ...
