During the servicing of my Volvo S40 (see my separate report on that little lemon) I was fortunate that the servicing agents let me have the use of an S70 on a couple of occasions. The car was finished in a Peppermint Metallic colour which is a very pale green. The colour took some getting used to but the car was a gem. I read later the car had 170bhp but it felt much more, the power just came in so beautifully needing just a squeeze of the throttle to have the scenery moving past the windows quickly. Drop a gear or two and floor it and a comparatively short overtaking manouvre you might not have attempted in another car could be achieved with ease.
The car was very comfortable, the driving position so commanding the world seemed a little inferior. A glance back as you swept passed lesser cars has a view dominated by as big a spoiler as a milkman’s horse would be if it ran in the Derby. Leather bucket seats so comfortable you would want them in your living room.
Alas I had to take this seductive motor back and collect my 1.8 dullmobile …until the next service.
The S70 in this form is not cheap coming out around £23k but if you are in that sort of market area then it is worth considering. I would rate it above a BMW5-series or Audi A6 which like-for-like on specification would probably be dearer anyway. Volvo's have traditionally had a poor image compared with these makes but I think both BMW and Audi have been churning out the same product for 10 years now and take their customers for granted. Volvo show with the S70 that they can produce a superb car.

Love them too.
I actually own two 440's one of which is a turbo model. My husband would love the S70 or C70 but he will just have to wait. (23 grand is too much whilst I am at Uni). As to the 0-60 all I can say is it, is fast. My little 1.7 turbo gives most cars a run for their money!

Advantages: Good looking, comfortable front seats Disadvantages: Bad build quality, too mnay recurrent faults, D5 engine not as good as reputation suggest
