Owning a Volvo S80

Advantages: Extremely well built reliable and comfortable vehicle
Disadvantages: Very low to the ground and can be thirsty on fuel

The Volvo S80 is the Volvo flagship and inherits the build quality and reliability that Volvo is renown for. The smooth six-cylinder engine is quiet and reliable but if pushed can be thirsty with less than 18 mpg. Its not a BMW 528 and so you cant throw the S80 around in the same manner; but on the other hand its built with so many safety features you are at least safe and extremely comfortable. Its capable of 145 mph where the plod turn a blind eye and at 100 mph your passengers will never guess your going that fast! Volvo servicing is excellent and the agents tend to ?look? after you like no other dealers, but again don?t expect cheap prices this is a £30,000+ car and when it does need parts, they wont be cheap! Comfort is the big thing with this car, the moment you sink into the leather interior and adjusting the seat ...

Volvo V40 1.8 Bi-fuel

Advantages: Smooth ride, quiet & sticks to the road
Disadvantages: Extremely expensive servicing

This was my first Volvo, my first LPG car and my first estate car. I had it from new for 1 year (only got rid of it 2 weeks ago due to opting out of company car scheme) The car was an SE spec so all the toys, electric everything and all leather, climate control etc. Firstly the fuel thing- LPG took a couple of weeks to get used to as it lacked power at low revs, pulling off required an extra few revs but after that there was no noticeable difference. Beware though this car has no spare tyre because the LPG tank is in the wheel well,a emergency aerosol tyre repair kit was provided and worked when I needed it but I do Know an owner who was stranded with a flat,This also compromises boot space and the usefulness of the estate is lost a bit as the boot floor has a large raised area.Dog owners beware my Lab struggled to get comfy in ...

S80 2.4 Auto - Long Term Report

Advantages: Safe, smooth, relaxing
Disadvantages: Expensive to maintain

Having owned an S80 for a couple of years I can report the following: The car is pleasant to drive. It is very relaxing, the comfort levels are top notch and the whole experience leaves one feeling fresh even after long drives. Fast approaching the 100,000 mile mark the car shows no signs of flagging. The motor (the 170bhp model) is effortless and the suspension smoother than the sportier S60 models. With reasonable driving the fuel consumption for the 2.4 auto can be maintained at 30mpg. Hard driving will see this take a nose dive! This is a big car - if you travel on narrow roads or have limited parking this may not be the car for you. The servicing costs are somewhat greater than any other car I have owned, but the onboard computer is a reassurance that there are no nasty problems going unnoticed. As a second hand ...
