...- so here I am Volvo Man !
I could have got a better one but now I've got it sorted I think its a good car to own for the next couple of years - the main problem with it was the ride which was ******* awful - turned out that the front off side & the rear near side shocks had gone (& the seller said that the suspension was OK !) so that was another £500 to fix that & it felt like a new car - its absolutely solid - just seen its twin reviewed ... .../>
My mate has a petrol 1.8 & he asked how I liked it slowing down on hills - his goes 70, 60, 50, 40 when he hits a hill on the motorway - however the Turbo Diesel just takes hills in her stride & returns about 40 mpg even with my lead foot
So I can heartily recommend the V40 1.9 Turbo Deisel version. ... more
I bought my maroon V40 1.9 Turbo Deisel off eBay about 3 months ago - its got almost a full service history & has done 160,000 miles !!! - the specification for my "new" car was Estate, Diesel (as I do about 24000 miles per year), Quality, Air Con, CD player & all for less than £2500 ! - not tooooo much to ask I think ! - I could have bought standard rep-mobiles but I didn't think they met the Quality bit of the spec - to me it came down to an A4 or a V40 & I couldnt afford an A4 - so here I am Volvo Man ! I could have got a better one but now I've got it sorted I think its a good car to own for the next couple of years - the main problem with it was the ride which was ******* awful - turned out that the front off side & the rear near side shocks had gone (& the seller said that the suspension was OK !) so that was another £500 to fix that & it felt like a new car - its absolutely solid - just seen its twin reviewed on Top Gear & that was their comment as well. My mate has a petrol 1.8 & he asked how I liked it slowing down on hills - his goes 70, 60, 50, 40 when he hits a hill on the motorway - however the Turbo Diesel just takes hills in her stride & returns about 40 mpg even with my lead foot So I can heartily recommend the V40 1.9 Turbo Deisel version.
Advantages: Spacious, not bad design Disadvantages: expensive
When the word Volvo is said sudden pictures of square boxes spring to mind, well to some, but the latest car in the family has a solid bodywork and the interior is something to want in any car. Interior:- A range can be chose from all plush including the basic cloth. Radio can come with CD player which is always useful. Space for stuff in the boot is imense along with leg room in front and back. Exterior:- The bodywork comes in a range of colours, ... ...think come as standard, but if not there not much extra and also look quite special. Performance:- As a diesel its quite noisy in the low gears and doesn't 'pull' very well, acceleration in first isn't bad though. When you get it out on the open road though its a beauty handle and goes well in 5th gear reaching about 115mph if your lucky, which isn't bad for a diesel. This car is allround excellent bar a few minor faults which can be over looked ...

Advantages: Extremely fuel efficient, safe and fast Disadvantages: lack of room in the rear, not a lot of storage space in the front
I have had this car for just over a year now, I bought it second hand with over 20,000 miles on the clock, 2 years old, the person who had it previous to me had put in leather seats and parking sensors, so I got a bit more than the basic model. I have had many estate cars in the past, mostly BMW's, a RAV 4 and a vauxhall, I have never owned a diesel before this, and I must say, the fuel economy is fantastic compared to my previous cars, 40-45 mpg! ... ...spongy either, the cockpit is just right for me at 5ft 7in, but my OH at 6ft 2in finds it cramped. I imagined a diesel to be a bit slow on acceleration, but not this one, it has no problem accelerating from any speed. It has never let me down, starts every time, even when left outside all night in the snow.I recently had to purchase two new tyres for the front and they were much cheaper than the BMW ones, services are reasonable too.
The only two ...
