2.4 litres of Sweedish muscle combined with a low-pressure turbo makes even the automatic sound sporty as it pulls away in the snow from the blond bikini clad party girls after a late night at the Stockholm Savoy.
The Volvo V70 is a quite literally a thrill to drive. The driving position is commnanding as you are elevated significantly from the hustle and bustle around you on a slightly bucketed seat with thermal 'bottom warmer pads' inset in the lining. Whilst a manual is favoured by drivers for the control over the power you can exert, the joy of this automatic is that there is so much power to fall back on which is effectively and instantaneously applied with the merest touch on the accelartor that the car really drives itself. The cruise control option i have found an effective and admitedly relaxing driving innovation which is so well employed in the Volvo.
The dials are simplisitc and stylish with a geneorous yet unobtrusive spread across the dashboard. The braking system is extremely responsive and the A.B.S. translates the most agressive of emergency stops into a safe and steady deaceleration.
The Car
It really is worth upgrading your spec of the V70 for it can come with a flush cream leather interior and four electric windows. The alloys are also upgraded. The regular model however comes with a quite ample Dolby sound system including a sinlge 'disc in dash cd player' tape player and a kicking 100 watt amplifier.
A criticism would be that there is no middle seatbelt without request but there is a useful fold downchild seat with a lapstrap. There are also two additional child seats that fold out in the boot, making it an ideal family car, fullfilling this criteria with its safety, accomodation and lonf distance comfort.
The crumple zone is significant and the car is also SIP (side impact protection) fitted. There are only two airbags but once again this number can be increased at purchase by request from the maunfacturer.
The central locking system is flawless and the alarm is piercing!
