Our second V70 (03/2003 2.4 D5 SE) is not likely to be our last. Volvo's reliability and good after sales service befits the premium brand. The car is supremely comfortable, bags of space and we're never stuck for room lugging golf clubs, dog, baby stuff, etc. Performance is good on the diesel - a definite improvement from the old one (was a 2000 V 2.5 D which was an old Audi A6 engine in fact); much quieter and very gutsy. Best performance is overtaking from 50mph onwards. The automatic does affect fuel economy a bit, but averaging 35-40 mpg and it's a combination of motorway/A road driving. The one detraction is the turning circle is worse than on the old model but this is only a nuisance really in tight car parks. Servicing is £300-ish but no probs yet with the car, as you would expect from such a workhorse.
Despite us piling on the miles the interior still appears brand new. New 2 level heated seats are an improvement too on the old model.
An added bonus for those with big families or school runs are the two jump seats you can have in the boot - we've used this for 5/6 year olds who have found it really comfortable and remarkably easy to clamber into. For this (or your dog!) there are now air conditioning units directed toward the boot. Also, the charger in the boot is handy if you have an electric coolbox.
Finally, we went for parking distance control on this one and it's worth every penny!
Estate - Front (FWD) - 6 Speed - (Man) / 6 Speed Geartronic - (Auto) - 2401 cc - Max Speed: 140 mph - 185 bhp - Diesel - Available Trims: R-DESIGN, R-DESIGN Premium, SE, SE Lux, SE Lux Premium, SE Premium, S, Sport
