Car Reviews of Volvo V70 »
From the trails and into the trees
Advantages: Comfortable for cross-country drives, without downside on hp output when negotiating off-roads Disadvantages: Low ground clearance limits car performance
...V70, I'd stick it out with my car. It is "the" family car. With plenty of cabin space, and the safety features that Volvo is known for, I say the V70 is a nice attempt at combining the functionality of an off-road vehicle and the luxury of a city car. ...

Fantastic load lugger
Advantages: Space, comfortable driving position and fuel economy Disadvantages: Wide turning circle
Our second V70 (03/2003 2.4 D5 SE) is not likely to be our last. Volvo's reliability and good after sales service befits the premium brand. The car is supremely comfortable, bags of space and we're never stuck for room lugging golf clubs, dog, baby stuff, etc. Performance is good on the diesel - a definite improvement from the old one (was a 2000 V 2.5 D which was an old Audi A6 engine in fact); much quieter and very gutsy. Best performance is overtaking ... ...economy a bit, but averaging 35-40 mpg and it's a combination of motorway/A road driving.
The one detraction is the turning circle is worse than on the old model but this is only a nuisance really in tight car parks.
Servicing is £300-ish but no probs yet with the car, as you would expect from such a workhorse.
Despite us piling on the miles the interior still appears brand new. New 2 level heated seats are an improvement too on the old model. ...

And it's not even bad to look at!
Advantages: spacious, powerfull and comfortable yet still 'without a badge' Disadvantages: Becomin accustom to living in it.
...The Drive The Volvo V70 is a quite literally a thrill to drive. The driving position is commnanding as you are elevated significantly from the hustle and bustle around you on a slightly bucketed seat with thermal 'bottom warmer pads' inset in the lining. Whilst a manual is favoured by drivers for the control over the power you can exert, the joy of this automatic is that there is so much power to fall back on which is effectively and instantaneously ... ...car really drives itself. The cruise control option i have found an effective and admitedly relaxing driving innovation which is so well employed in the Volvo. The dials are simplisitc and stylish with a geneorous yet unobtrusive spread across the dashboard. The braking system is extremely responsive and the A.B.S. translates the most agressive of emergency stops into a safe and steady deaceleration.
The Car
It really is worth upgrading your spec ...

A great family car
Advantages: Spacious and Roomy Disadvantages: Expensive repair bills
We have now had our VOlvo V70 for over two years and are really happy with it. We have two toddlers and the boot space is brilliant for two pushchairs and loads of shopping. The turning circle is really wide and takes a while to get get used to but if you don't mind reverse parking then it's fine. The downside is that when something does go wrong it can cost quite a lot to get it repaired at a Volvo dealer. As ours is now six years old we'll probably ...

Big old thing!!!
Advantages: Nice fresh outlook Disadvantages: Volvo tank!!!
...a few years ago the Volvo line-up could easily be understood by letters and numbers - small(ish) 40, medium-size 70, large 90. S in front meant saloon (or sedan in the USA); V signified 'station wagon' or, in the UK, the more sophisticated-sounding 'estate car'.
Volvo still differentiates its models this way but you can no longer take it for granted that if you like the look of one of the company's saloons, you can swoop in to the nearest dealership ... ...pine for the old one, Volvo can accommodate you: the previous square-rigged model, now dubbed the Classic, continues for a while.
It's said that Volvo's British-born design director Peter Horbury once penned a vehicle that combined a Jaguar E-type front with a Ford Transit rear. Luckily for estate car buyers, the new V70 is no such horror. Certainly the tail is squared off but if you want an estate don't you want load-lugging ability? And you get ...
