I bought a 3 yr. old V70 D5 SE to replace my petrol engined 850 SE 2.5 10v. which was 12 yrs.old.Impressions as follows: comfort greatly improved, turning circle not as good-but can be lived with.Acceleration from start off is not quite the same, but once you are rolling it is superbly torquey, making overtaking easy. After 3 years of trying to make the 850 more economical I could get an average of 31.5 mpg. on a 1,300 m. trip to & around Scotland. This D5 163 hp V70 is currently averaging 54mpg for similar driving!! - enough said. Performance is more than adequate- if I wanted a sports car I would have got one ! Servicing is less frequent than with the 850, and so far I can only say it does everything I want very well-- would I go back to the petrol powered 850,.....NEVER!!..........................Ivan H.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Good start, but what it the vehicle like to own and drive long term? The MPG is clearly OK, but how about servicing, reliability and cost and frequency of repairs?

Welcome to Ciao. I'm also a V70 driver and would agree with much of what you say. A much more sedate and less responsive drive than the old-style V70/850, but comfortable and reliable in true Volvo tradition. Okay review, but you need to include more detail and lay it out in a more organised way for higher ratings.

Very good review...You are preaching to the converted here as we have a Volvo XE 70 D5 (08 model) a S40 2L D Sport (07 model) S40 2L Sport petrol (07 model) and a C30 Sport 1.8 SE (08 model) and poor old mum has an old Shogun to get around in. I might get a nice new Volvo in time. LOL. Thanks J. AKA the Volvo family.
