Advantages: Great cars. Located off J44 M6. Good prices. Disadvantages: In my opinion the parent company is shocking!

Unfortunatley, before the loaner appeared I had a very small arguement with a wall and scuffed the front bumper!! Another call later and I had arranged for an estimate for the work while it was down having the rust repaired.

We were well looked after, good price for trade-in, good price for car bought and even flowers for the wife! Around June/July I noticed a small patch of rust at the boot. On telephoning them I was told that would be sorted under the 8 year rust warranty, they even made provision for the car to be picked up and a loaner issued (I live 100+ miles from dealer). Still great service shown. Unfortunatley, before the loaner appeared I had a very small arguement with a wall and scuffed the front bumper!! Another call later and I had arranged for an estimate for the work while it was down having the rust repaired. The car was picked up and another V40 left. A couple of days later and I was telephoned with the estimate, to which I agreed. After a total of about a week the car was returned, all work carried out to a very high standard. However, the problems then began... In September I received a letter saying I was now overdue paying my bill. Attached to this letter was a very poor photocopy of a bill. My wife telephoned to tell them that it would be difficult to be late paying since we had never received a bill! The person named on the letter was away but would call us on his return - they never did! A few weeks later another letter appeared this time threatening legal action. Again my wife called and told them we had no bill to pay and to contact me at my work - they never did! Eventually, in February 2001, after numerous calls, we finally received a proper bill. It has taken until the end of April, and a call from me straight to Volvo, for someone to even apologise and explain the awful mess that they created, which they assure me was not down to Lloyd Volvo, but their independant bodyshop and parent company Lloyd Motors. I have no grievances with Lloyd Volvo, however, the actions of the parent company has led me to think carefully if I should return in the future. They have since been in touch enquiring if I would like to change my car to a newer model - we shall see!!
Advantages: Only there to sell new cars Disadvantages: poor after sales, lack of knowledge
I bought a secondhand 1996 Volvo 850 from an independant dealer. I needed a few extras so went to my friendly neighbourhood main dealer.
The receptionist was efficient, the showroom was very smart, but the parts people were next to hopeless. They just didn't know the vehicle as well as a main dealer should-this vehicle was a Volvo mainstay for a good few years and only stopped being sold in 1997. Eventually the parts were found and ordered. They ... ...announced. A quick call to Volvo UK sorted them out. They had misread the dates on the recall notice and assumed that the notice that Volvo UK had only just issued had already expired! The work was done on time, and i have no quarrel with the servicing side.
The last time I went was to buy a small part. I described the item fully. The part was ordered, and turned out to be the wrong type. A second part was ordered, again wrong type. One of the mechanics ...

Advantages: Performs well, very reliable, comfortable, practical, roomy Disadvantages: Not as well built as some Volvos
Nearly 7 years ago I bought a nice Volvo 440 1.7 automatic from a fireman who was selling it for something bigger to accommodate his ever growing family.
I saw the car for sale in the local press and went to have a look at it. I was very pleased with the car, it had a lot of creature comforts you would expect (central locking, electric front windows, electric sunroof, power assisted steering and a height adjustable front seet - which is very important if, like me, you have short legs !).
Driving the car was a pleasure - very comfortable, and although the car is quite low to the ground this was not a problem as you could raise the drivers seat.
The car handled very well and because these Volvos are quite light, it was very nippy too. I was also pleased with the insurance costs too. I cannot recall the exact figure but I do know ...

Advantages: Most stylish 4X4, hugely roomy, very comfortable, good value for money Disadvantages: Expensive second hand, needs bigger engine, may not fit your garage
I am very much aware that my wife is by a long way NOT alone in being a fan of this particular car. A good couple of years after its launch Volvo still have a healthy waiting list for them. That means two things;
1) Volvo actually under-priced this car when they launched it and;
2) that of all the 4X4's on the market the XC90 makes by far the most sound financial sense, its' residual (second hand) value is second to none.
Volvo were undoubtedly surprised by the runaway success of their very first entry into the proper 4x4, or as the Americans would call it SUV, Sport Utility Vehicle, market. Sure, they had dabbled with four wheel drive versions of the V70 Estate, but this was a totally new departure for this ultra conservative Swedish firm. However with Fords financing and marketing know how, Volvo have powered from strength to ...

Advantages: Quick, fun, cheap Disadvantages: Some niggles, interior quality
Having owned my Volvo 480 for a little over a year now, i feel its about time to write a proper review for it.
Having been a member of the invaluable online owners club and forum (www.volvo-480-europe.org) for some time before buying i felt infromed as to what to look for and had already walked away from a couple of cheaper / worse condition examples. Hard though it may be to do, its the only way you're going to enjoy your 480, read up before you go and let someone else buy the cursed ones!
I bought mine for £671 from a forum member through an ebay auction, which i still think was a bargin. There are cheaper 480's out there but to get any car with a full years MOT and some tax for that price has to be excellent value. Especially since there is no depreciation to cripple you, you should be able to sell a 480 on without any loss ...
