I bought my Volvo V40 1.8 SE from Lloyd Volvo, Carlisle back in April of 2000. My inlaws recommended the company as being very good, and, to begin with it was. We were well looked after, good price for trade-in, good price for car bought and even flowers for the wife! Around June/July I noticed a small patch of rust at the boot. On telephoning them I was told that would be sorted under the 8 year rust warranty, they even made provision for the car to be picked up and a loaner issued (I live 100+ miles from dealer). Still great service shown. Unfortunatley, before the loaner appeared I had a very small arguement with a wall and scuffed the front bumper!! Another call later and I had arranged for an estimate for the work while it was down having the rust repaired. The car was picked up and another V40 left. A couple of days later and I was telephoned with the estimate, to which I agreed. After a total of about a week the car was returned, all work carried out to a very high standard. However, the problems then began... In September I received a letter saying I was now overdue paying my bill. Attached to this letter was a very poor photocopy of a bill. My wife telephoned to tell them that it would be difficult to be late paying since we had never received a bill! The person named on the letter was away but would call us on his return - they never did! A few weeks later another letter appeared this time threatening legal action. Again my wife called and told them we had no bill to pay and to contact me at my work - they never did! Eventually, in February 2001, after numerous calls, we finally received a proper bill. It has taken until the end of April, and a call from me straight to Volvo, for someone to even apologise and explain the awful mess that they created, which they assure me was not down to Lloyd Volvo, but their independant bodyshop and parent company Lloyd Motors. I have no grievances with Lloyd Volvo, however, the actions of the parent company has led me to think carefully if I should return in the future. They have since been in touch enquiring if I would like to change my car to a newer model - we shall see!!
