I’m not sure if you are aware, but the great minds here at Ciao have decided to stop using category assistants or guides, as the first point of call for someone who needs help getting a product added to the database, or some information about where to write a review they are planning. How does she know this and what will we do now if we need help, I hear you ask. The answer to both questions is simple. Vox Populi Ciao. How do I know? I know because I read a post by one of the category assistants, telling us about the changes on Vox Populi Ciao. Where would the best place to go be if you need help with a category? Same place, Vox Populi Ciao.
I have been a member of VPC for about 4 months now. Please excuse me for not writing about it sooner only I like to get a feel for a place before I start singing it’s praises or condemning it to an early grave. VPC has become one of my favourite places to hangout when I am online and much of this is because of the variety of information and interaction that is available there. I like a laugh and joke as much as anybody else and we certainly do plenty of that on VPC, but I also like a good debate. I like to discuss subjects that are important to me, I like to share my views and experiences and I like to read the opinions of others. I suppose being a stay at home mum often has me at a social disadvantage and often during the day I sit in front of my computer, coffee in hand and spend a few minutes reading the posts and responding to the subjects that are being discussed.
So what is VPC? It’s a forum for Ciao members. It’s a place where you can access information about the categories available on Ciao. Where you can get help if, for example you’re not sure where your opinion should be posted or you need some information that might help you with your review, or you just want some advice from someone who is familiar with the category or the product you are reviewing. On VPC the various categories you might need are clearly laid out, with the name of the people responsible for them clearly visible. Just ask your question and someone who knows what they are talking about will try their best to help you out. I know my biggest problem with Ciao has always been product proposals. VPC now has a section dedicated to helping with this side of Ciao and seeing as Truesatan is the guide for product proposal help here on Ciao, and he built and runs the board, you are sure to get the same advice and help you would get here only probably quicker on VPC as I know that Truesatan dedicates a lot of time to his site. There are some really comprehensive guidelines to help you with product proposals on VPC and to get to them you just click the floating menu on the left had side of the screen. Couldn't be easier could it? I should point out that Ciao will be keeping both it's Product proposal help and also the Special Events Co-ordinator.
It would be a bit boring if VPC was only there to help you out when you need it though, would it not? So what else can this board offer you?
There are plenty of categories for discussion on this forum my favourite being The Big Bad Board, with chitchat, Ciao abuse, Tell Ciao this, fun and games, news and much more. I must point out that the site is not run by Ciao, as I have said it’s the brainchild of an established Ciao member, TrueSatan. Just because Ciao haven’t built this board and don’t endorse it, doesn’t mean that they aren’t interested in the views of the members of Ciao and I think it’s a really good idea to have a place where members are able to discuss changes that are being implemented and changes that should be made. A sort of a united voice, if there is such a thing. No one can make them listen but let's hope that if enough people speak up, well you never know do you.
There are new things being added all the time, there’s a chat room, three shout boxes and a ticker at the top of the page that keeps you up to date with the very latest VPC and Ciao news.
There’s also Freebay, a place, like Ebay where you can sell your unwanted wares, online. The catch? There isn’t one, it’s free and really easy to use.
I can hear all you little boys out there. If it hasn’t got games them I don’t want to know. Well it has. Lot’s of them and they’re easy to access too. In fact there is so much going on with this site I am sure that many of you might be scared to give it a go incase it’s a tad too complicated. I have to tell you that you’d be wrong. I have been put off many a forum because it has been far too complicated and I couldn’t find my way around. VPC is beautifully built and very easy to navigate. Posting is just the click of a button away and everything is clearly presented and very well laid out. Click the floating menu button on the left hand side of the page and you have instant access to all the games, the chat and much more. I have to say that I have been very impressed at the stability of the forum. I can honestly say I have only ever been there once to find VPC out of action and that was only for maintenance. A message told me the forum would be down for half an hour and it was only half an hour before it was up and rolling again. That’s not bad going is it? I also like the fact that members are registered under their Ciao names, so that everyone knows who they are. I was a bit worried when I first joined, I thought I wouldn't fit in. I know now that that was silly because everyone has been really friendly.
VPC is well maintained, well managed and really well designed. I for one am very impressed, not only with how easy this site is to use and the amount of things to do on it, but also by the diligent way that it is regulary updated and cared for. The forums are well moderated to make sure that any trouble is sorted out before it becomes a problem. This is really important it makes people feel safe, however it isn't moderated to the extreme which again is a welcome bonus.
Come along and take a look. Once you register you can change the skin of the page to suit your taste, send private messages and interact with other members. You’ll find me there, that’s for sure.
Vox Populi Ciao…Sounds kind of heavy don’t you think. But what does it mean, I’ll tell you, it means in basic terms “The recorded opinions of people talking informally in public places".
Vox Populi Ciao or VPC is just that, a forum for the members of Ciao to come together to express opinions, debate or just have fun. VPC was created by TrueSatan, Ciao’s very own Product Proposal Guide and to say that the result is innovative is an understatement.
... ...to new members and it has been said that VPC is just that but don’t worry it isn’t. There are many well known writers from the pages of Ciao acting as moderators for VPC who will see that everyone is treated fairly should they decide to grace the pages of VPC.
Anyway let me move on and explain what VPC will offer to the prospective new member. First of all imagine that you are having trouble writing about or even proposing a new product on Ciao ...

Advantages: Gives the members of ciao a voice Disadvantages: Not enough people know it exists
Vox Populi Ciao is a website set up by ciao members, for ciao members. Although it is not ciao member exclusive it has been set up with ciao members in mind and this is its great strength.
On accessing the website (after completing the usual online registration form) you are greeted by some scrolling banners welcoming you to Vox Populi Ciao. These cover the latest ciao and vox pop news.
The default colours are incredibly dull being a dull grey/blue ... ...but not exactly awe inspiring. Luckily these are easily changed by a click of the mouse on the "skin selector" handily located at the top of the page. Mine is currently set on "The Simpsons" which is a blue sky and clouds background, much more colourful and pleasing to the eye.
On the main screen are the usual tables that contain the vox populi forum. Within these tables is were the fun starts.
The Big Bad Board is the meat of the site for me. ...

Advantages: An interesting place to spend time Disadvantages: none
I first came across this site when reading a review by Bigbaz, for whom
I have a lot of respect, so I went to have a look and this is what I found.
Vox Populi, taken from the Latin and meaning “Voice of the People” is a
web-site with a difference. There are several Ciao external forum sites, as you may know, but none quite like this. Registering to use the site is quick and requires minimal information, after which you are taken to the Portal ... ...access to other parts of the site.
First Impressions:
I liked the appearance of the site, although the initial colour scheme was not to my taste. There is, however, a choice of skins to suit your own requirements and the general layout is very clear. There is, however, another purpose
behind the default skin other than
just one of visual appeal; the colours
have been chosen to enable those with dyslexia to see the print more clearly, following ...
