The WD-40 company recently celebrated 50 years of business, and now markets it's products to more than 160 countries around the world. There can't therefore be many who don't know who they are or what they are famous for.

Some of the great successful companies have the simplest of products, and of course those products which actually work, and almost sell things that everyone can find a use for.

The original WD-40 is a familiar spray can of lubrication oil. It's uses are numerous, thousands anyway. You'll find it in homes and garages, sheds, cupboards, cars and boats - everywhere. Where do you keep yours?

Basically anything that squeaks, moves, hardens and so on can benefit from a good squirt of WD-40. The most obvious use, is for those doors which always squeak, and from some magic in this can - that annoying noise is gone just like that. Squirt it on your bike chain to keep it moving smoothly. Got a knitting machine? Use WD-40 to make those needles run like a dream. Got your zip stuck? - WD-40. Frozen lock? Yep, WD-40. WD-40 was ininitally intended to drive moisture away from things which were damp, but there is so much more to it. So if you've dropped your mobile into the toilet bowl (and you haven't done a poo), take it out, cover it with WD-40, sit back and wait for it to recover.

As well as lubricating, and moisture driving, it seems to be a good cleaner too - tackling those burnt on barbeque grills with ease, as well as tea stains from your kitchen work surfaces and ink form carpets. Rusty nuts? Loosen em up with WD-40. Who says you need 101 different products for different jobs? Are you buying seperate stain removers for tomato sauce from your t-shirt, shoe whiteners, shower door cleaners? Why? Use WD-40.

If you've got kids, and they've seemingly stuck two lego bricks together, get the WD-40 out and they'll soon be free! Squeaky toys drive you mad? Give em a squirt.

I could go on, but I'm sure you get the message. Life without WD-40 is like um...beans without toast maybe.

So what does WD-40 mean then? Well, WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians in a project to find a "Water Displacement" compound. The 40th attempt was WD-40.

Must cost a lot then? Nope, about £1.50 for a 100ml can, even better value for a 400ml can at around £2.50. Ansolute bargain!!
