...Existing as the cheapest external HDD in the market, WD has really sweeped the market.. A perferct combination of performance, quality and good price..
It comes in 250, 320, 500 GB and just came out with 1TB...
The prices are incomparable.. This HDD is the most stable that I have ever used.. It has curbed the most irritating problems with HDD - that is stability issues.. No complications, just plug and play.. No installation of drivers, nothing at all.. It comes with built in Google software for photo management (Picasa).. The best thing is that it comes as FAT32 formatted, so it can be used in all (windows, mac and linux ubuntu)..
As far as speed of file transfer goes, its good as per to USB 2.0 speeds... For better speeds, go for the firewire versions.. WD has also come up with data backup versions of the same..

...This Western Digital WD800JD Internal Hard drive was one of my best computing buys.
I bought it boxed and unopened from eBay for £20, and other listings of the same item were of a similar price, £20 for 80 GB, which works out £1 for 4GB, which is pretty cheap.
It came in perfect condition, with easy instructions to follow if you didn't already know what you are doing, when going to install it, it was a simple case of screwing it to the Bay and plugging in the Power and SATA cables and then booting the PC. It required no BIOS editing and no formatting.
I installed Vista Ultimate on it fine, and within an hour of getting it, I was downloading the Ultmate Updates, I have yet to have any problems with it, it is quiet, fast (150 MBps) and has good cache(8 MB).
The Drive is a nice small size (dimension wise) 10.1 x 14.7 x 2.5 cm and only...

Advantages: Standard Disadvantages: Extremely unreliable, warranty is only one year
...One of the most unreliable and fault ridden disks I've ever seen. I purchased a batch of similarly sized Maxtors, Hitachis, Seagates and Western Digital drives around 3 years ago. I had about 15 Maxtors, of which I now have 7 remaining. In comparison, I've only lost 1 Hitachi and 2 Seagates. I'd say that pretty much speaks for itself.
To top it off, whilst the Seagates came with 3 year return to base warranties, the Maxtors have about a 1 year. I wouldn't say that's a vote of confidence from the manufacturer on the product's reliability. Though, 1 year warranty on hard disks does seem to be becoming industry standard.
For disk purchases I would highly recommend Western Digital or Seagate. I still have 4 GB WDCaviars that are still up and running!...

I really do love Western Digital hard drives as they deliver great performance and storage at very reasonable prices. This is no exception.

I've actually just reviewed the 200gb version of this disc drive.
I currently have 2 western digital hard drives in my PC, one of them is this one and the other is a 200gb version of this.
The reason I have two of these is simple - its because they more
