If we look at the name of this device, 'Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250 GB', we can infer a great deal of information. 'Western Digital' is the manufacturer, 'Caviar' is the produce line, 'SE16' tells us that this is a special edition device with a 16Mb (1Mb = 1024Kb, 1Kb = 1024b) cache, 'WD2500KS' is the model number and 250Gb is the device size in raw data format. Western Digital are a good company and in fact I buy all of my hard drives from them because they have never failed on me. The Caviar device line has been in operation for about six years and has included IDE devices as well as the newer SATA and SATAII devices. Review of WD Caviar Blue WD2500KS 250 GB

The Maxtor Basics 1 TB looks amazing and is very user friendly.

Advantages: Huge storage space, Looks beautiful, Very easy to install and use, Loads videos very quickly.
Disadvantages: None really.

have never had a problem with the Maxtor 1 TB, always reliable and it has never faulted. This contrasts with previous external hard drives I have owned which sometimes turned off of their own accord and opened incorrect files. The Maxtor is very user friendly and for me, it has yet to take a wrong step. 5/5 Design The Maxtor 1 TB has a matt black finish all around its curved body with a shiny black top and bottom. It has a green LED light that lights up when information is being accessed or modified. One nice feature is that it can be placed either stood up on its side or lying down. It runs perfectly either way though it feels sturdier when on its side. When data is being accessed it runs almost silently, much quieter than similar hard drives I have owned in the past. Review of Maxtor Basics Desktop 1 TB

Toshiba 1TB Desktop Hard Drive (USB)

Advantages: Value for money, massive storage, great design, decent speeds!
Disadvantages: Bright flasing blue/red/purple light on the front.

My laptop is fairly old but has served me very well (it's a Toshiba incidentaly) , it has about 27GB of storage space which nowdays isn't enough for all my work as well as movies and music. I decided to look at some external hard drives so I could store everything that I wanted and more. This particular model appealed to me, not just because it was the cheapest, but because it had very good specs (1TB of storage to say the least) and was a Toshiba. A very good brand that I trust. So I forked out the cash and had it delivered to my door. Opening the box, I saw that it was slightly longer but overall smaller than it had apeared online.
