Advantages: Fastest Hard Drive in the world! Disadvantages: Bit of a price tag
Western Digital have been one of the top dogs in HDD production for many years now but with the release of their new Raptor HDD they secured their place in history as the company that made the fastest HDD in the world! The WD Raptor spins at 10,000 RPM (most HDD only spin at 7,200) which makes it the fastest HDD in the world right now.
I got my new 150GB WD Raptor from Overclockers.co.uk for around £171(I only got it from there because I was getting ... ...sides. I don't know why Western put these on but it sets the drive apart from others and I suppose if you're the fastest HDD in the world you would want a nice new look loll.
The Raptor is a SATA drive, this means there's no more of those giant IDE cables to stick in the back of the drive. That means if you don't have a motherboard with a SATA port on it then there is no point in getting one of these because you can't use it. If you do then the ...

Advantages: Fast Fast & Fast! Disadvantages: Hot, Pricy.
Western Digital does it again. They release an update to the fastest Sata drive on the market, which was overdue, but well worth the wait. These drives are up to any task you can throw at them.
These Raptors are super fast. Simply, the fastest available hard drive for desktop computers in the world. They have got excellent seek time and data transfer rate. Installing and loading Windows is just fun on these drives. Games load extremely fast. Data ... ...two Raptors in raid to increase the performance beyond all levels.
The drive is fast but gets hot. So, proper air flow across the drive is very important. One more negative aspect of the drive is its very high price. Also, the drive is available in a maximum capacity of 150 GB which is very little for these days.
The decision is up to you. Performance but at a hefty price tag! ...

Advantages: Looks amazing, performs amazing. Disadvantages: A bit expensive.. its just a HDD afterall
This product has to be one of the most impressive looking computer component i have ever seen. The clear top complements my acrylic case and shows off the spindle and disk spinning at 10000RPM! Wow! From using my old IDE 7200RPM hdd to this one, i have lost 14 seconds on my windows load and loads more time off computer game load screens etc. The Raptor has probably boosted my overall performance of my computer far more then replacing any other component. ...

In combination with a RAID0 array for storing my data files (for which transfer rate, not latency, is important) I could not be happier with my PCs storage capabilities.
