My WHSmith is a fairly sizeable one, laid out in a logical sense: magazines and food at the front, stationary towards the back, a downstairs level with a small section for games, crafts and DVDs... more

Advantages Advantages All your book, audio and stationery needs in one store

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough stores exist

In the words of Julie Andrews "these are some of my favourite things" - books, dvd's, stationery. So, naturally, WH Smith's is one of my favourite stores! In this op I am going to specifically concentrate on one store - WH Smih's at Holborn Circus. I visit this store at least once a week during my lunch break and am very familiar with its layout. History I checked the history of this great shop just out of interest and I was amazed. I knew it had long established credentials, but had no idea that they went back as far as 1792 when Henry Walton Smith and his wife opened the first news vendors ... more

Advantages Advantages Good "library" for students to read magazines, some good offers, nice staff

Disadvantages Disadvantages Over priced, under stocked...in fact complete rip offs at times

WHSmiths, a store here in Britain we've all been in and we all know the simple idea of the store, in which they sell media (magazines, books, DVD's and CD's), stationary, as well as the normal "counter goods" of sweets and drinks. However as it's fair to assume we are all to knowledgeable of, they sell them at a price that seems uncompetitive and highly over the odds in fact many wonder how the company makes any profit at all. Well for those like myself who will pick up a book or two a week, charities shops often seem the best place to get a book from, or even online, often undercutting ... more

Advantages Advantages offers within store and friendly layout and staff

Disadvantages Disadvantages can get very busy on a saturday

For years this was regarded as a bookshop well it looks as if all that is now changing. My local town peterborough now has two shops. One is on Bridge street outside and the other is in Hampton. This is most conveniant as you find if one shop doesnt have something the other probably will. Whsmith have realised that they need to expand to keep customers which they obviously have. The main store in Peterborough city center is very good in my opinion. There magazine collection is maybe the biggest in the city center and there are hundereds of books to browse through. The music department has ... more

Advantages Advantages clean stores, good 3 for 2 deals, sales

Disadvantages Disadvantages cramped store, not much selection

In my city we have two WH Smiths stores in the city centre. One is in the new style while another is just in the process of being renovated. The store does a good job of catering for all your newspapers and magazines but over the years the business seems to have evolved into being one of the most competitive on the high street. The stationary side is very well covered with all sorts of paper, accessories and pens to suit your needs and if you want a birthday card or lottery ticket then it's all under one roof. Now I don't use this store to buy these items, in fact I'm not a regular shopper at ... more

In Leeds there's just one branch of WHSmiths in the centre, but there are other branches around the city, like in the White Rose Centre. This isn't exactly my favourite shop in the world, as you can imagine, at my age, stationery and books aren't the most exciting things around!! I always imagined WHSmiths as a book shop really, probably because that was its main trading point when I was younger. It's only recently that I've been in to buy my own books and pens that I realised there's a lot more to it! As you enter the branch in Leeds there's an esculator to the upstairs department on one side ... more
