Advantages Great taste, good price

Disadvantages Can be too sickly / fizzy

WKD Original Vodka is a brand of alcopop which is part of the RTD (ready todrink) market and is extremely popular in the United Kingdom. In 2006 it was placed number 2 in the RTD Market. The name is pronounced "wicked", however, when the drink was revamped, the logo was changed to "WKD" although many drinkers still refer to it as the original name… "wicked". WKD was born in Scotland and launched in August 1996 and is still as popular today, if not more. You can purchase these bottles in either 275mls or 700mls. Generally, the 275ml bottles are sold in shops and pubs and the 700ml bottles are sold in supermarkets such as Asda etc. The 275ml bottles can be sold individually and also in 4 and 12 packs.

There are different varieties available, although my favourite is the BLUE WKD and the RED WKD. Other varieties include - Irn Bru and Silver.

Blue WKD - Blue coloured. Bubblegum / Blue Raspberry Flavour

Red WKD - Red coloured. Mixed fruit flavoured.

Silver WKD - Clear coloured. Tropical flavoured.

Irn Bru WKD - Orange coloured. Irn Bru flavoured.

All bottles are 5% after being reduced in October 2003 from 5.5% alcohol by volume. I find all of them to be very sweet in flavour and can become quite sickly after a while.

Blue WKD can be used to make a drink called "Cheeky Vimto". It got its name as it tastes very similar to the vimto drink. Cheeky Vimto is made with Blue WKD and Port, mixed together.

Other drinks which can be made using Blue WKD as an ingredient include: 2 Step, CV Special, Double V, Fat Frog, Green Monkey, Refresher, Refresher No. 2 and Sex on the Sofa… although I have no idea how to make these!

Prices vary depending on where you purchase your drink. A single bottle can cost from £1.50 in a bar to £2.50 and is roughly the same price in the shops. A 700ml bottle is sold for roughly £3.50 in supermarkets.

I really like this drink as it is soft and goes down easily and you aren't left with a "bite" at the back of your mouth like you are with many drinks. Some may find that this drink is too sickly after a few… as well as being too fizzy. The bottles tend to be made out of glass, although some bars now sell the drink in plastic bottles of the same design.

I got told that drinking WKD makes you "well gay" by someone recently. I asked him for some empirical evidence and a pie chart to show the correlation between drinking WKD and homosexuality, and he tried to hit me, missed, slipped over a table and fell asleep on the floor. I walked off slowly.
