Advantages Nice Graphics, A Variety of Unlockables, New Modes
Disadvantages Say Hello To The Loading Times of All Time For The PSP
Smackdown Vs Raw 2006 has already been released on the PS2 and was an exceptional game, wrestling fans from everywhere enjoyed the game, all the wrestlers signature moves, arenas and unlockable characters. This game is similiar to its twin, and plays it well, especially for a PSP game. Packing everything onto a 1.8GB UMD is probably qite hard.
There are a number of modes such as Exhibition, where you can play al lthe favourate matches such as Royal Rumble, Hell in a Cell, and all the others. There's also the fantasy matches which you can have, which constists of you choosing a WWE Diva facing off against another Diva, where you goal is to strip her of her clothes, except for her bra and panties. There's also the all faithful, and trustworthy season mode. The season mode takes you on a whole wrestling packed season of a WWE Superstar, either from smackdown or raw. Whilst in the season you have the decision to choose your path, choosing your own fate at different cutscenes leading to your own WWE Superstar Story. You can also have matches in the backstage, the bar (or pub), and the car park. In these special matches you can beat your opponent senseless using your surroundings such as car boots and doors, including your weapons lying around. The trick is to irish whip them onto the front of the car and beat them silly.Whilst in the matches you have the momentum bar which adds some sort of realism to the game, as the more moves you carry out, the more your stamina/momentum bar gets depleted, dont worry though as you can fill it back up by having a rest, whilst in the match. I personally, like the signature moves such as Rey Mysterio's "619", or Batista's "Batista Bomb". There's some unlockable characters which require you to complete season mode such as Hulk Hogan, and the 80's Hogan.
There's also a chance to play some bonus games such as Texas Hold 'Em Poker and Eugene's Airplane Race which requires you to keep the momentum of Eugene as he pretends to be an airplane and you have to control him around the ring. The only thing I thought was completely "off" about the game was the loading times, they were awful, completely and utterly uncalled for. I could go to the toilet to relieve myself, have a cup of tea and even have something else to eat on the side and the it would still be loading. This is my own testimony.
There's also the Wi-Fi connectivity with upto 4 players for some great matches with friends or family.Overall I would say this game is exceptional for a wrestling game and for anyone who enjoys wrestling. This isn't your average beat 'em up like Tekken or anything, so be aware, fantastic game throughout, a must buy for PSP owners (if your patient about the loading).
