Smackdown vs Raw 2008 is the best wrestling game to date with much improved graphics, sound and gameplay. Over the years the smackdown series have failed to live up to the hype and expectations of wwe fans like myself.
But this years edition is much more improved with the addition of ecw, 24/7 mode and hall of fame mode. But thats not all the biggest improvement of all is the fighting styles. Each wrestler has their own abilities. The abilities can be a showman, dirty, high-flying, hardcore, powerhouse, technical, submission or brawler. For example John Cena is a power house so his moves will cause more damage and Ric Flair is a dirty superstar, he will cheat to win. This makes the gameplay more fun and enjoyable and more tactical.
There are plenty of matches to choose, from your classic one-on one matches to tlc matches, extreme rules match where anything goes and you can now set fire to tables and weapons to cause more damage than ever before to your opponents. There is also a GM Mode, where you can run your own show by choosing your brand and then your matches. The aim of GM mode is to win the overall fans ratings at the end of the year and become GM of the year! There's plenty of items to unlock in the wwe shop and legend characters such as The rock and Bret Hart to buy by earning cash in career mode.
The career mode is a massive improvement to all the other smackdown games. You can do much more this time round. You can star in a film ,do autograph signings and train up your superstars to help improve their stats.
What I like about the controls this time round is that they have got rid of the B button which was used to build up your stamina from last years smackdown which got annoying, now all you need to do is go out the ring for a quick breather instead of having to press B every couple of seconds. The only problem with the new control set up is getting use to the submission control which instead of always having to press the buttons quickly its the right analog stick and its more about timing.
Graphics are amazing some entrances like HHH and Mr Kennedys are the best i've seen on any wrestling game which makes it even more enjoyable to play. The sound is quality and in this years edition you can bring your own music into the game for your created superstar.
Online play has also improved more than last years, when people last year disconnected from a match online it would affect your streak of wins and for some reason start you back on 0, but this time if someone quits a match early your given the win. You can still create and defend your title online and trade created superstars.
There are 30 achievements to unlock on the game 10 which are secret achievements .
This is a must buy game for all wrestling fans or if you like your fighting games then this is the game for you.
