WWF Smackdown is different, not least because of something called the Special Guest Referee feature. With this you never know which familiar face from the halls of the World Wrestling Federation is going to be your judge and juror next. It can turn friends into bitter enemies, and induce groans when a fighter that's recently been double crossed ends up taking the referee post for a later, crucial match. But of course, no matter what the whims of the current ref are, there's no substitute for raw wrestling talent, as players go into the ring with such familiar faces as The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin, and around 30 other WWF superstars, each looking, acting, and talking just like their real-life counterparts. Signature moves complement the wide range of standard wrestling tricks, making for a game that's surprising subtle. And the season move is equally complex, with the opportunity to work up through the ranks, from weekly WWF shows to lucrative pay-per-views. WWF Smackdown has the authentic sights, sounds, and situations of real WWF.
