If you're looking for something to improve your artistic ability, this is not the tool for you. Wacom don't sell miracles! But if you're looking for a tool that will make using your PC/Mac more flexible and natural feeling, this is the tablet for you.
At first using the tablet instead of a mouse is daunting, not having a button to click feels unnatural and the lightness with which you need to touch the pen to the tablet also seems strange, but after the first few hours of getting used to it, it becomes second nature.
Browsing the internet, using explorer and simple tasks like moving documents all feel like an extension of your fingertips as opposed to a heavy click-drag motion with a mouse. Simple browsing isn't the only place it improves your computer use. Editing photos, drawing or painting and even adding your signature to a digital document is made simple, eliminating the need for a scanner.
With mac OS "ink" allows you to handwrite using the pen in any area on the tablet to enter in text. Using this with the tablet is very successful, with very few errors providing you follow the tutorials provided.
Within the box you receive the bamboo one, its pen, a driver/manual CD and booklet. The tablet itself is basic, in a charcoal grey colour and with a small dip to rest the pen in it is a bare bones tablet. The pen itself has two customisable buttons that you can configure to do any action you wish. The driver/manual CD is very handy. The manual itself is a flash based tutorial with tasks for you to complete. It covers the basics allowing you the user to adapt to the pen with practice. The difference between the bamboo 'one' and the standard bamboo appears to be only the lack of buttons on the tablet itself.
Sensitivty is good, allowing effective painting in photoshop with sensitivity directly related to pressure. The size of the tablet board is also good when compared to screen size, it is very easy to adapt to relating the smaller tablet size to screen area.
Price wise this tablet is a GEM! At just over half the price of the standard bamboo, and only differing in the colour and lacking in buttons on the tablet board this is a bargain of a first time tablet. Most users will not benefit from the extra buttons on the tablet board and this extra fuss is not missed on the 'one'.
A good all rounder of a graphics tablet, perfect for the novice, beginner or casual user, with a price to match.
Advantages: Pressure sensitive, easy to set-up, ArtRage is fantastic Disadvantages: Sometimes slow to register pen when close to last mark
...sketching and graphic artists.
Wacom say that a free download is offered - they supply a download link and a choice of two programs, but unfortunately, my mac would not recognise the downloaded file =(
You can also set the dimensions of the tablet to mimic the size of your screen, so you don't have to keep moving your hand.
You may never want to use your mouse again!
Overall, well worth the money, ...
