After being advised on the best type of food to be serving to “my boys” (two beautiful guinea pigs!), I now find my self reviewing what seems to have gone down a storm with Fudge and Alvin!

The product in question is - “Wagg, optimum premium guinea pig food”.

The reason the pellet variety of food was recommended for the boys instead of the various different “muesli’s” available, is due to the fact it stops selective feeding, and it does work too, I purchased some muesli a while bag as it does look much nicer than these pellets, full of different colours and shapes, and immediately the boys started picking out their favourite bits and dumping all the crap, ie the green flakes, they seemed to really dislike these, so this meant I was having to fill their bowl twice as often, which of course is not economical at all!

These pellets contain all the things that the boys would need daily as part of a healthy varied diet, though they will still need hay to nibble and there favourite fresh vegetable treats too, but these are what I would deem as the “bulk” of there diet.

It is recommended that for one guinea pig they should have between 35g-50g a day, though this should be offered in two sittings, and contains all the vitamins and nutrients they would need for a healthy life.

These being -

Vitamins A, C and E, for a healthy immune system, with vitamin C being essential for there overall health and well being.
There are also added nutrients in the form of fibre for digestion and added yeasts to support the digestion process, though with how often I have to clean them out, I don’t think this is something the boys have a problem with!

Ingredients include sunflower extract, apples, grapes, linseed, grass and wheat feed, but doesn’t contain any artificial colours or flavourings, though my boys bounce around the cage as it is, so being smacked off there faces on E numbers is probably a good thing!

This is a dry food product and so being should be kept dry before feeding to the guinea pigs, this comes in a paper type bag, so I have fund that it is better to be decanted into a cereal storer, this not only keeps the food dry, but it makes it easier to dish out too, my daughter dropped some of the pellets on the floor when pouring straight from the bag and my husband thought the boys had been flicking there poo out of the cage! (Again, it seems to be some sort of entertainment for them!)

In addition to keeping the dry stuff dry, you also have to provide plenty of fresh drinking water for when they eat it, I would imagine for them it is the equivalent of eating a pack of crackers for us!

This food comes in a 2.5kg bag, which equates to a good few weeks worth of food (even for my greedy little men!), and costs around the £4.00 mark, with this being available for purchase from any good pet store and even from larger supermarkets too.

This is by far the boys favourite food (though they will literally rip your hand of for a carrot!), so from them and me, recommended!

Thanks for reading x
